Summary: Half-sandwich Os-arene complexes exhibit promising anticancer activity, especially the OsCUR-2 complex, which shows remarkable photocytotoxicity towards a range of cancer cell lines and has the potential for further development as a photosensitizer for anticancer photoactivated chemotherapy (PACT). The photochemistry of these complexes involves selective photodissociation of the arene ligand and oxidation of Os(II) to Os(III) under blue light or UVA excitation.

Summary: This study investigated the luminescence properties of dinuclear gold(I) complexes with the title ligands, as well as their preliminary evaluation of in vitro anticancer activity. It was found that neutral and monocationic complexes can exhibit strong emissions in the red region of the visible spectrum without a rigid metallamacrocyclic structure, and their cytotoxicity seems to correlate with lipophilicity while selectivity towards cancer cells can be enhanced by a judicious choice of the ligands.

Summary: The Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes of Henna; 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (Lw) were synthesized and characterized. The composition of all complexes was [M(Lw)(2)(H2O)(2)]. The geometry of the complexes synthesized at 0°C was trans, while cis for complex 4 at 26°C. The crystal structures of copper complexes 4A and its pyridine adduct (4Apy) were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The complexes synthesized at 0°C showed enhanced anticancer activity against the A549 cell line. Cell cycle analysis, mitochondrial potential, Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and Tunnel assay were performed on complex 1A.

Summary: Mitochondria-targeted iridium complexes have shown promise as potential anticancer agents. These complexes localize in the mitochondria through a reactive nucleophilic reaction with mitochondrial proteins and exhibit high anticancer activity, inducing mitochondrial depolarization, increasing intracellular reactive oxygen species levels, inhibiting colony formation, and angiogenesis. Mechanistically, one specific complex, Ir2, activates caspase-3, regulates the expression of Bax and Ki67, and triggers apoptosis.

Summary: This study documented the synthesis and characterization of two new organometallic Au (III) and Pt (II) complexes with 2-acetylthiophene-N(3)-methylthiosemicarbazone (HL). The compounds were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques including X-ray diffraction and MS. The results revealed the coordination of the thiosemicarbazone ligand to the Au (III) and Pt (II) metal atoms in a tridentate mode. The compounds exhibited interactions in their molecular packing, as demonstrated by quantitative analysis of the 3D Hirshfeld surface and 2D fingerprint results. The biological activity of the compounds against MCF-7 human cancer cells was evaluated, and their inhibitory activity was predicted using molecular docking.

Summary: Developing a new generation of anticancer metal-based drugs that can both kill tumor cells and inhibit cell migration is a promising strategy. In this study, we synthesized three Cu(II), Zn(II), and Mn(II) complexes derived from 5-chloro-2-N-(2-quinolylmethylene)aminophenol (C1-C3). Among them, the Cu(II) complex (C1) showed superior cytotoxicity to lung cancer cell lines compared to cisplatin. Furthermore, C1 demonstrated inhibitory effects on A549 cell metastasis and tumor growth in vivo, and its anticancer mechanism involved multiple pathways such as inducing mitochondrial apoptosis, acting on DNA, blocking cell cycle arrest, inducing cell senescence, and causing DNA damage.
