Simple Summary The aim of this study is to review the available information on the use of avian eggshell as bone regeneration material. Five databases were searched up to October 2020. Animal studies with a bone defect model using eggshell as a grafting material were included. Risk of bias and the quality of the papers were assessed. Overall, a total of 581 studies were included in the study, 187 after duplicate removal. Using the inclusion and exclusion criteria 167 records were further excluded. The full text of the remaining 20 articles was assessed for eligibility and included in the review. There were different methods of obtaining eggshell for grafting purposes. Eggshell is a biocompatible grafting material, with bone formation capabilities. It forms new bone similar to other products currently in use in clinical practice. It can be combined with other materials to enhance its proprieties. Eggshell is a promising biomaterial to be used in bone grafting procedures, though further research is needed. The aim of this study is to systemically review the available evidence on the in vivo behavior of eggshell as a guided bone regeneration substitute material. Five databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE) were searched up to October 2020. In vivo animal studies with a bone defect model using eggshell as a grafting material were included. Risk of bias was assessed using SYRCLE tool and the quality assessment using the ARRIVE guidelines. Overall, a total of 581 studies were included in the study, 187 after duplicate removal. Using the inclusion and exclusion criteria 167 records were further excluded. The full text of the remaining 20 articles was assessed for eligibility and included in the qualitative and quantitative assessment synthesis. There were different methods of obtaining eggshell grafting materials. Eggshell is a biocompatible grafting material, with osteoconduction proprieties. It forms new bone similar to Bio-Oss and demineralized freeze-dried bone matrix. It can be combined with other materials to enhance its proprieties. Due to the high variability of the procedures, animals, production and assessment methods, no meta-analysis could be performed. Eggshell might be considered a promising biomaterial to be used in bone grafting procedures, though further research is needed.

Role of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis and management of vascular lesions of the head and neck

Raluca Petea-Balea, Manuela Lenghel, Horatiu Rotar, Cristian Dinu, Simion Bran, Onisor Florin, Rares Roman, Simona Senila, Csaba Csutak, Ciurea Anca

Summary: Ultrasound is the first-line imaging technique, but may not fully assess the extent of vascular anomalies in some cases. Magnetic resonance imaging with DCE-MRI allows accurate evaluation of the extent and anatomical relationship of vascular anomalies, as well as providing hemodynamic characterization, aiding in therapy selection and prognosis assessment.

Summary: Orbital fractures are a common result of facial trauma, and proper orbital reconstruction is important to prevent complications. This study evaluated the soft tissue of the orbit after posttraumatic reconstruction of orbital wall fractures. The findings showed varying degrees of fat and muscular tissue loss in all cases of reconstructed orbital fractures, providing guidance for primary or secondary soft tissue augmentation in orbital reconstruction.

Summary: The mechanical properties of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and graphene-based PMMA with Zn and Ag were compared in this study. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze the samples before and after the mechanical test. The compression behavior, flexural properties, tensile strength, and shape of the PMMA variants were investigated and compared. The results showed no statistical difference in the mechanical properties of the samples, but the graphene-based PMMA displayed similar performance to commercially available PMMA and showed potential for future clinical use.

Some inequalities related to Ky Fan inequality on time scales

Cristian Dinu, Daniela Danciulescu, Alexandru Tugui

Summary: In this work, improved versions of the Ky-Fan inequality for functions on time scales are presented, with the use of weights that can simultaneously take negative and positive values. It also explores the potential applications of these models in the economic context, as Economics offers numerous opportunities for time scales applications. Time scales not only unify discrete and continuous mathematics, but also provide a unified approach to discrete and continuous methods in economic studies.
