Similarity and Specificity of Traditional Chinese Medicine Formulas for Management of Coronavirus Disease 2019 and Rheumatoid Arthritis

The pathogenesis similarity is leading to the introduction of drugs commonly used in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) into coronavirus disease (COVID-19) treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was widely used for the treatment of infectious diseases and rheumatic diseases. However, there is little knowledge of the relationship between COVID-19 and RA treatment employing TCM formulas. The present work was aimed to compare the similarity and specificity of TCM formulas for the management of COVID-19 and RA, as well as to deduce the potential mechanism of TCM for COVID-19 treatment. Two formulas including lianhuaqingwen (LHQW) and duhuojisheng (DHJS) were selected as the representatives of TCM for COVID-19 and RA treatment, respectively. An integrated network pharmacology was used to investigate their similarity and specificity. Although different herbs are present in the two formulas, they generated fairly similar ingredients, targets, interaction networks and enriched pathways, which were mainly involved in virus infection, inflammation, and immune dysregulation. Undoubtedly, they also exhibited their respective specificity. LHQW showed the cold property and lung channel tropism which dominated heat-clearing and lung-freeing, while DHJS showed the warm property and liver channel tropism. Herbal compatibility of LHQW was more in line with the rules of the TCM formula against coronavirus disease. Although both formulas suggested multifunctionality in virus infection and inflammation, LHQW was inclined to cope with virus infection, while DHJS was inclined to cope with inflammation. Therefore, LHQW was reliable for providing the desired efficacy in COVID-19 management because of its cold property, lung channel tropism, and multifunctionality for coping with virus infection and inflammation.

A mobile intelligent guide system for visually impaired pedestrian

Summary: In this paper, an intelligent guide system based on a smartphone is proposed. Videos of tactile paving captured by the phone camera are processed and analyzed, and guide messages are sent to the user in the form of sound or vibration. A fine-tuned MobileNet model is used for feature extraction, and Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD) is employed for TWSI detection. The user's position is determined using the Score Voting algorithm, and corresponding guide information is provided. The system achieves high accuracy and real-time performance, and can replace bumpy tactile paving with flat stickers or paint with TWSI patterns.

Mendelian randomization suggests a potential causal effect of eosinophil count on influenza vaccination responsiveness

Summary: Currently, there is a lack of systematic exploration on the clinical factors influencing immune responses to influenza vaccines. The mechanism of low responsiveness to influenza vaccination (LRIV) is complex and not well understood. In this study, we combined our in-house genome-wide association studies (GWAS) analysis of LRIV with the GWAS summary of 10 blood-based biomarkers to investigate the genetics shared between LRIV and blood-based biomarkers using Mendelian randomization (MR). The results suggest a potential causal relationship between genetically instrumented LRIV and decreased eosinophil count.

Emergency load shedding strategy for high renewable energy penetrated power systems based on deep reinforcement learning

Symptom profiles and vaccination status for COVID-19 after the adjustment of the dynamic zero-COVID policy in China: An observational study

A survey was conducted to investigate self-perceived symptoms and their association with vaccination status during this outbreak. The survey included 552 individuals, and infected individuals displayed various symptoms associated with different factors, with fatigue, phlegm, and cough being the three most common.

Impact of COVID-19-Induced Home Quarantine on Parental Stress, as well as Anxiety and Depression among Children

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of home quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic on parents' stress and children's anxiety and depression. The results showed that the quarantine event caused by the pandemic was directly related to the anxiety and depression scores in children, and higher stress levels in parents predicted higher anxiety and depression scores in children.

A High-Gain Fabry-Perot Antenna with Broadband Low-RCS

Summary: This study proposes a Fabry-Perot antenna (FPA) with broadband RCS reduction by loading a broadband Low-RCS metasurface. The loading of this metasurface not only achieves broadband RCS reduction from 6.2-30GHz, extending the reduced bandwidth, but also increases the gain of the FPA to 19.6dBi.

Cause analysis of V-shaped crack pairs on drawn welding wire surface of ER70S-6 steel

Summary: This research carefully characterizes the V-shaped cracks on the surface of drawn welding wires and thoroughly discusses their underlying mechanism. It is found that the V-shaped cracks often appear in pairs with opposite directions. The formation of these cracks is attributed to the deterioration of local lubrication during the wire drawing process, leading to the austenitization of the wire surface and subsequent formation of martensite.
