Summary: Participatory energy planning at the local level can increase citizen engagement, establish legitimacy and trust, and promote successful implementation of renewable energies. This research contributes to the current literature by providing concrete examples and verified approaches to clarify the guiding principles of participatory energy planning and address the opportunities and challenges involved. The paper presents a process design that includes multiple tools for collecting social input, such as surveys, questionnaires, and workshops, to facilitate participatory technology choices. The design is applied and tested in a case study of a Dutch neighborhood, and the lessons learned serve as a basis for further research.

Summary: The article examines the knowledge-first epistemology and its norm of action, as well as its relationship with standard decision theory. The author argues that the tension between decision theory and the knowledge norm of action is illusory, and suggests actively selecting decision-theoretical tools that can best capture knowledge-based decisions in specific situations.

Summary: Process knowledge is crucial for the digitalization and intelligentization of the manufacturing industry. The management of complexity and uncertainty in model-based engineered systems is critical to achieving rational, comprehensive, and robust decisions. The proposed decision-centric design process representation scheme aims to support the management of complexity and uncertainty in decision-making processes.

Summary: New entropy functions based on an agent's perceived uncertainty are formulated in this paper, highlighting the role of the decision-maker's attitude. The study introduces new attitude-based variants of probabilistic entropies and extends existing fuzzy entropies to consider the agent's specific attitude. The proposed entropy functions are shown to have wide applicability in multi criteria decision making.

Summary: Research combining a face-morphing decision-making task with EEG found that the centroparietal positivity signal reflected the decision variable, and further study showed that this signal throughout the decision process best reflected the product of sensory evidence and an evidence-independent urgency signal. The study also revealed that urgency varied across subjects, suggesting it may represent an individual trait.

Summary: Research on measuring mouse behavior has yielded reproducible results across multiple laboratories, showing that once training is complete, there are no significant differences in behavior across labs. Additionally, mice in different labs adopted similar strategies for decision-making.

Summary: This study analyzes uncertainty in real-world decision making and introduces a new entropy function specifically designed for human decision-making. The proposed function takes into account an agent's sensitivity to uncertainty and can handle both subjective and probabilistic uncertainties, with practical applications in portfolio diversification highlighted in a real case study.

Summary: The primary tasks of decision-support modelling are to quantify and reduce uncertainties in model predictions. This requires assimilating information from site measurements and expert knowledge. The design process involves a compromise between model complexity and parameter assignment.

Summary: Decisions are the result of a deliberative process that assesses the suitability of each potential option. Two influential views on perceptual decision making include the standard proposal of sequentially accumulating sensory evidence in favor of each option and an alternative proposal of low-pass filtering and weighting sensory evidence by an urgency signal. Experimental data suggests that a model with a low-pass filter and an urgency signal better describes decisions than a model that accumulates sensory evidence, even when sensory evidence sequentially disappears. This study supports the idea that, under certain situations with dynamic sensory information, decisions may be better explained by an urgency-gating mechanism than by an accumulation one.

Summary: Understanding and properly facing the increasing complexity of projects is crucial for success in project-based organisations. This paper provides insights into the interplay between project complexity and organisational learning, highlighting the need for different organisational learning processes based on the dimensions of complexity identified in literature. The study conducted in a leading shipbuilding company reveals the importance of specific behaviors and approaches for organizational learning in addressing complexity issues within projects.

Summary: Adaptation decisions in urban flooding involve political, justice, and equity issues, which may be overlooked due to technical orientation. Identifying entry points and collaborating with stakeholders are essential to making political dimensions and issues of justice visible in decision-processes.

Summary: Evidence accumulation models are widely used to explain the decision-making process, but recent studies have raised questions about the mapping between the latent parameters of these models and the theoretical constructs they represent. Findings show that emphasizing urgent responding can impact decision threshold, drift rate, and non-decision time, with implications for differentiating between competing psychological theories.

Summary: Community science projects aim to satisfy volunteers' motivations and desired outcomes, but failing to link motivations and outcomes can lead to unfulfilling participation. Categorizing volunteers into types can better reflect their motivations and desires, and projects should broaden their evaluative scope to include a wider range of volunteer motivational pathways.

Summary: Previous studies have shown significant correlations between health literacy and health outcomes, but the influence of social and personal factors on these associations has been underexplored. This study used a moderation approach to examine how these factors could act as conversion factors in the relationships between health literacy and health outcomes. The findings indicate that individuals with beneficial social or personal factors have stronger associations between health literacy and health outcomes.

Summary: This study follows Sen's capability approach to assess young people's well-being in terms of capabilities and functionings. Results show that young men with lower capital equipment rated their capabilities and functionings lower than others, with differences observed in health, happiness, and intellectual stimulation. The study confirms the effects of social, economic, and cultural capital on overall capabilities and functionings. Future studies should analyze issues of choice and adaptation to restricted living conditions to better understand the mechanisms underlying the transformation of capabilities into functionings.

Summary: This study developed pandemic-specific items to assess complexity awareness among university students and found that 49.6% demonstrated limited awareness while 50.4% demonstrated high awareness. Female gender, highly educated parents, and attending a practically oriented university were associated with high awareness. The results suggest the need to support students in understanding the complexity of the Covid-19 pandemic.
