Summary: This study evaluated the association between seasonal changes and ambient temperature with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), revealing a significant positive relationship between season changes and the prevalence of GDM. Further research is needed to determine the exact mechanism behind this association.

Summary: The study in Western Greece showed a seasonality in the diagnosis of T1DM, with a majority of patients being diagnosed during the colder months of the year, in line with previous reports. This adds to the understanding of T1DM and may contribute to identifying factors that could reduce the incidence of the disease in the future.

Summary: Understanding how microbial communities adapt to environmental stresses is crucial for interpreting ecological patterns and microbial diversity. In this study, we investigated the hypolithic communities in the Gobi Desert and found that hypolithic colonization rates decreased with increasing drought gradient. We also observed different community compositions in the hot and cold seasons, with cold communities dominated by Cyanobacteria and hot communities dominated by Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. Cold communities had stronger functions in photosynthesis and carbon metabolism. Our findings suggest that the hypolithic communities in the Hexi Corridor of the Gobi Desert may follow a seasonal developmental cycle.

Summary: This research paper evaluates the reliability of numerical models based on the one-dimensional transient state heat conduction equation for predicting soil temperature variation. The results show that the numerical models provide temperature values close to the experimental data, but there are significant mismatches in the 1 m depth model.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the actual therapeutic effect and rebound situation of dapagliflozin on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. A total of 1,594 patients were enrolled and analyzed using a non-linear mixed effect model. The results showed no significant difference in HbA1c reduction between the 5 mg/day and 10 mg/day dapagliflozin dosage groups. It was also observed that there was a rebound effect on HbA1c when dapagliflozin reached its maximum efficacy, and the efficacy decreased with continued treatment.

Summary: The study showed that various oxidative status markers and proinflammatory biomarkers in the saliva of diabetic patients were altered before and after tooth extraction, correlating with HbA1c levels and potentially serving as indicators of post-extraction healing status in the oral cavity.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between CGM metrics and laboratory HbA(1c) in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. It found a moderate correlation between HbA(1c) and TIR3.5-7.8 during pregnancy. To achieve an HbA(1c) target of less than 6.0%, pregnant women with type 1 diabetes should strive for a TIR3.5-7.8 of greater than 78% during pregnancy.

Summary: The analysis aimed to determine if type 2 diabetes and HbA1c levels predict 30-day hospital readmission after metabolic and bariatric surgery. Results showed uncontrolled type 2 diabetes is associated with increased readmission and reduced weight loss post MBS. Additionally, type 2 diabetes and prediabetes were also linked to decreased weight loss after MBS.

Summary: This study aims to compare N-glycan changes in adults with type 1 diabetes to those in children and investigate their associations with disease duration, complications, glycaemic status, and smoking. Results showed differences in 19 glycan groups between type 1 diabetes patients and healthy controls, with a decrease in monogalactosylation and an increase in digalactosylation, monosialylation, and antennary fucosylation. HbA1c was positively associated with sialylation and highly branched structures. The study suggests the involvement of N-glycome in different stages of type 1 diabetes.

Summary: The study found that in patients with type 2 diabetes, serum T-50 values were closely related to factors such as gender, smoking, blood sugar control, blood pressure, insulin use, and diabetes history, but not related to cardiovascular event history or microvascular disease. This indicates that serum calcification propensity is independently associated with glycemic control in diabetic patients, suggesting that lower HbA1c levels may be associated with better cardiovascular outcomes. Prospective studies are needed to further investigate the relationship between T-50 and a history of macrovascular events.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study examined the changes of HbA1c levels in adults with type 2 diabetes before and after the COVID-19 lockdown in Taiwan. The results showed that HbA1c levels were significantly lower after the lockdown in 2019, 2020, and 2021. However, the absolute seasonal reduction in HbA1c during the COVID-19 pandemic was slightly less compared to the year without COVID-19.

Summary: This study investigated the association of rs543159 and rs1317652 variants in the SLC22A3 gene with response to metformin monotherapy in newly diagnosed patients with T2DM. The results suggest that these genetic variations may be correlated with variability in treatment response.

Summary: The presence of pre-transplant type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in cardiac transplant recipients is associated with increased graft failure and 5-year mortality after transplantation. Well-controlled T2DM is clinically relevant for improving the survival rate of heart transplant recipients.

Summary: The research found that the seropositivity rate of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in children was 10%, with a higher rate in older children. Despite schools re-opening during the study period, the seropositivity rate did not change. Children's immunity started declining 4 months after the initial infection.

Summary: The study found that HbA1C variability is associated with diabetic complications in type 2 diabetic patients, and may be influenced by factors such as insulin use, age, and ischemic heart disease. By analyzing the standard deviation of HbA1C values, the study identified significant differences between the high variability group and the low variability group in terms of smoking, obesity, and visits to diabetic clinics.

Summary: The study found that the majority of primary care physicians are aware of the higher health risks for caregivers and recommend preventive care measures, but their activities in preventive care are relatively passive. Therefore, primary care physicians need to take a more active role in maintaining the health of caregivers.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the breastfeeding-related experiences of mothers with primary care physicians (PCPs). The study found that mothers generally felt inadequate support from PCPs regarding breastfeeding, and physicians lacked knowledge regarding medical treatment for breastfeeding issues. Mothers preferred alternative resources for support and suggested that physicians should expand their knowledge on breastfeeding medicine and improve communication for better treatment options.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the level of awareness of elderly primary caregivers regarding the health risks associated with their caregiving role and determine the factors influencing their awareness. The results showed a low to moderate level of awareness, with caregiving burden, caregivers' self-rated health, patient's disease severity, caregiver gender, number of children, and familial relation to the patient being the significant factors. Interventions should be implemented to improve caregivers' awareness and ultimately enhance their quality of life and health, as well as optimize patient treatment and reduce healthcare costs.
