Summary: This research examines the impact of health expenditure and sanitation on life expectancy in Mediterranean countries, taking into account other factors such as CO2 emissions and economic growth. Through the use of moment quantile regression, the study finds that economic growth, health expenditure, and sanitation have a positive effect on life expectancy across all quantiles. Additionally, CO2 emissions have a negative impact on life expectancy across all quantiles. The findings suggest that policymakers should implement effective environmental and public health measures to reduce CO2 emissions and promote economic expansion and productivity.

Summary: Mathematics-intensive fields like physics and math face high student dropout rates in postsecondary education. Motivational decline after the transition to postsecondary education greatly contributes to students' difficulties in academic achievements and decisions to leave these fields. Through examining the changes in students' expected success and different task values, we found that these motivational factors predict academic success and course dropout, with increasing overlap and convergence over time. Moreover, there is a significant shift in the importance of expectancies and values after the transition to postsecondary education, indicating a critical period for interventions. Pre-existing achievement, socioeconomic, and gender differences lose some of their unique predictive power toward the midpoint of the semester.

Summary: This study examines the impacts of industrialization, economic growth, and globalization on ecological footprint and healthcare expenditures in the top ten countries with the highest healthcare expenditures. Findings suggest that industrialization, healthcare expenditures, and economic growth contribute to increased pollution levels, while globalization and urbanization processes reduce environmental damage. Additionally, there are bidirectional causal relationships between healthcare expenditures, urban population, industrialization, and ecological footprint.

Summary: This study focuses on the importance of female health outcomes in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. Using various models, it was found that access to electricity, female education rate, public health expenditure, and other factors have significant impacts on female life expectancy and adult mortality rate. The urbanization rate was found to have a significantly positive impact on female life expectancy, with one-way causal relationships between variables also identified.

Summary: This study examines the effects of globalization, energy consumption, information and communication technology, financial development, education rate, and economic growth on life expectancy at birth in Australia. The findings show that globalization, renewable energy use, information and communication technology, per capita GDP, education rate, and financial development have increased, while non-renewable energy use has reduced life expectancy at birth. The study also reveals unidirectional causal associations between the variables and life expectancy at birth.

Summary: This paper focuses on analyzing the impact of public sector efficiency on economic growth. The study uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) and generalized method of moments (GMM) to examine the relationship. The findings suggest that increasing government expenditure reduces economic growth in developing countries. However, when government expenditure is interacted with public sector efficiency, efficiency can amplify the impact of public spending on economic growth. Moreover, higher efficiency leads to a lower optimal size of government expenditure required for maximizing growth.

Summary: Sustainable development is a priority for the United Nations, with investment managers considering environmental, social, and governance scores in portfolios. Gender equality is a key goal in the 2030 Agenda, and some European countries have implemented gender quotas on corporate boards. Empirical studies on the influence of women directors on CSR have shown mixed results, especially in developing countries. This article investigates the impact of gender diversity on corporate boards on CSR performance in developed and emerging European markets, finding a positive influence with greater significance in developed countries, suggesting the need for legislation to promote gender policies.

Summary: Vector autoregressions (VARs) and their variants are standard models in economic and financial research, but estimating high-dimensional models presents challenges. This paper explores machine learning regularization methods as an alternative to traditional methods, finding that they perform better in forecasting and impulse response analysis. Regularization structures allowing for high-dimensional models outperform standard Bayesian methods in nowcasting and forecasting.

Summary: Climate change and limited resources have led to paradigm shifts in economic, social, and environmental policies and strategies. Sustainable development and the circular economy have become global priorities. This research aims to explore the path toward sustainable development in European countries by examining the relationship between green environment, economic growth, and circular economy issues. The study analyzes specific variables such as energy consumption, GDP, emissions, and waste generation for 31 European countries from 2009 to 2020. The results suggest that certain factors contribute to reducing waste generation, while others lead to an increase. This study provides insights for economic policy measures to facilitate the green transition process and promote the circular economy.

Summary: In this paper, a two-step approach is proposed for conducting statistical inference in financial networks of volatility, focusing on a network of European sovereign debt markets. The static results reveal that southern European bonds, which experienced the most volatility during the European debt crisis, were not necessarily net transmitters within the network, contrary to intuition. Furthermore, it is found that targeting low inflation and low financial stress are the most effective monetary and macroprudential policy stances for achieving low volatility transmission. The dynamics of the model suggest that the central bank should adjust its targeted variable based on the time period.

Summary: This study examines the microcredit market in the USA, specifically in Florida, due to the large Hispanic population, which allows for generalization to Latin American countries. The objective is to analyze the profile of microcredit holders and their companies from socioeconomic and financial perspectives. The study utilizes multinomial logit regression to assess the relationship between borrower profiles and loan repayment punctuality or default. The significant variables are the borrower's age, positively affecting repayment, and the loan term, negatively affecting it.

Summary: Crowdfunded microloans are a financing tool that can empower women in both developing and developed countries. This study analyzes the impact of gender on microloans using a large public database from Kiva and multinomial logit regression analysis. The results show that women are the best borrowers in terms of loan amount, repayment method, and recruitment period. These findings are important for promoting financial inclusion and achieving sustainable development goals.

Summary: This research uses the Random Forests methodology to explore the relationship between the betas and 13 financial and non-financial variables for the stocks listed in the S&P 500 index from 2015 to 2019. The findings indicate that ESG Scores are the main variable influencing the formation, determination, and sign of betas according to the Relative Importance criterion. Additionally, there is a quasi-direct correspondence between betas and industrial sectors, with some heterogeneity observed across the analyzed betas. The utilization of the Random Forests methodology ensures the acquisition of relevant results by inhibiting plausible correlations between the variables considered.

Summary: This paper develops a network econometric model to examine the impact of inflation on systemic risk. The study finds a robust inverse relationship that is reversed when controlling monetary policy, indicating that the former effect is caused by monetary policy responses to inflation. It investigates whether this effect stems from overindebtness as in a Minsky moment, but no evidence supports this claim, suggesting that other mechanisms besides excess credit underlie this relationship. The findings presented in this paper are particularly crucial for understanding how monetary policy reacts to inflationary cycles.
