Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed nonagenarians admitted to the urological ward, with the most common indications for admission being macrohematuria, bladder dysfunction, and urinary tract infection. The average age of patients was 92 years, with an in-house mortality rate of 9% and a 12 months mortality rate of 45%.

Summary: Cancer has the highest mortality and morbidity rates, and kills more men than women in Japan. Culturally and medically constructed as a 'lifestyle-related disease', prostate cancer incidence is directly proportional to the 'Westernisation of eating habits', and societal ageing. Nevertheless, campaigns to advocate routine testing for prostate cancer remain non-existent.

Summary: High tumor heterogeneity makes it difficult to identify molecular subtypes in prostate cancer. Here, the authors integrate single-cell chromatin accessibility data with multiplex imaging to reveal distinct chromatin features and transcription factor binding signatures in high- and low-grade prostate tumors.

Summary: Renal and urinary tract complications related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have been neglected in the literature, but are important. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of these manifestations and complications require a high index of suspicion, while optimal screening and monitoring methods for renal function in IBD patients are still unclear. Urolithiasis is the most common manifestation, while penetrating Crohn's disease involving the genitourinary system as an extraintestinal complication is rare but associated with significant morbidity. Some biologic agents used to treat IBD have been implicated in progressive renal impairment, although differentiating between drug-related side effects and deteriorating kidney function due to other manifestations can be challenging. The most common findings on renal biopsy of IBD patients with renal injury are tubulointerstitial nephritis and IgA nephropathy, with the former also associated with drug-induced nephrotoxicity related to IBD medication. Amyloidosis, though rare, must be diagnosed early to reduce the risk of progression to renal failure. Considering the potential severity and implications of acute or chronic loss of renal function, prompt diagnosis and treatment of these manifestations and complications are crucial.

Summary: There is a significant disparity in prostate cancer incidence and mortality between men of West African ancestry and men of European ancestry. Identifying different tumor genetic markers and immunomodulating signals in patients with diverse genetic backgrounds may help reduce the disparities in prostate cancer prognosis, treatment outcomes, and mortality in high-risk racial groups.

Summary: The study assesses the exposure of urology trainees to transperineal prostate biopsy (TP-Bx) and their intention to use TP-Bx in practice. Less than half of the surveyed trainees reported exposure to TP-Bx, with significant differences among countries. The study suggests that greater experience with TP-Bx during training is associated with a higher intention to perform TP-Bx in practice. The authors recommend setting a minimum requirement for TP-Bx cases during urological training to increase trainees' familiarity and adoption of this approach.

Summary: Prostate cancer poses a significant challenge for healthcare centers worldwide, leading to the implementation of centralization of services in the UK, Europe, and parts of the USA. The centralization has shown positive effects in improving patient outcomes, streamlining resource utilization, and reducing costs, but has also brought about negative impacts that need to be carefully addressed.

Summary: This study evaluated the levels of cyberchondria in patients attending the urology outpatient clinic, and found a correlation between cyberchondria severity and health anxiety. Male patients and uro-oncological diseases showed a higher association with cyberchondria severity and health anxiety. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between cyberchondria severity and health anxiety.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the expression of cell markers in neuro-urological patients with bladder cancer (NBC) and its correlation with carcinogenesis. The results showed that markers of basal differentiation, proliferation, and peri-tumoural lymphocytes were significantly higher in NBC, indicating the aggressiveness of NBC and the role of chronic inflammation in the development of bladder cancer in neuro-urological patients.

Summary: This article reviews the literature on symptom management in adult patients with brain tumors, including clinical significance and related theoretical framework systems. The study finds that while progress has been made in symptom science for solid tumors, insufficient attention has been given to symptom management for brain tumor patients. Further research is needed to effectively manage symptoms in these patients.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to describe the incidence, diagnosis, treatment, and morbidity of lower urinary tract injuries in patients with pelvic fractures. The results showed inconsistent management and severe complications in urethral injuries, while long-term complications mainly occurred in patients with complete urethral ruptures. The treatment and follow-up of urethral injuries were found to be unsystematic even in an experienced medical center.

Summary: Men with high-risk, non-metastatic prostate cancer receive adjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for at least 2 years according to Danish guidelines. It remains unclarified if patients regain the function of the pituitary-testis axis after cessation of ADT. Our study investigated the function of the pituitary-testis axis following adjuvant ADT and found that persistent testosterone deficiency (TD) is a common long-term consequence, equally distributed between pituitary and testicular dysfunction. The study emphasizes the necessity for systematic follow-up of full pituitary-testis axis function in patients receiving adjuvant ADT.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the feasibility of conducting a double-blinded randomized controlled trial comparing open cystectomy (ORC) with robot-assisted laparoscopic cystectomy (RARC) in an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) setup. The primary objective is to study the rate of unblinding after surgery and the number of participants who cannot guess the surgical technique. The study endpoints include various complications, length of stay, quality of life, and oncological outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the risk of new-onset cardiovascular events for patients with stage I-III colorectal cancer who received elective surgery compared to a matched population. The study found that patients operated on for colorectal cancer had an increased risk of heart failure compared to cancer-free individuals. Several potential risk factors for cardiovascular events were also identified.

Summary: A study in Denmark involving 37,231 men who had an initial non-malignant transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) biopsy showed that these men had a higher incidence of subsequent prostate cancer but a lower risk of prostate cancer death compared to the general population. It suggests that the oncological risk of cancers missed in the initial TRUS biopsy is low, and attempts to increase biopsy sensitivity are unwarranted. Current follow-up after a non-malignant biopsy may be overaggressive, especially for men over the age of 60.

Summary: This study investigates the incidence and risk factors for recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs) in renal transplant recipients and evaluates the impact on graft and patient survival. The results show that one in six patients experience rUTIs after renal transplantation, and multiple factors such as age, gender, history of lower urinary tract symptoms, and UTI within 30 days of surgery contribute to rUTIs. However, rUTIs do not affect graft function and patient survival.

Summary: The study examined the risk of suicide among prostate cancer patients compared to cancer-free men, taking into consideration clinical stage, socioeconomic position, somatic comorbidity, and previous depression. The risk of suicide was found to be similar between prostate cancer patients and cancer-free men, but it was highest within the first year after diagnosis. Prostate cancer patients with a history of depression had a higher risk of suicide. Healthcare professionals should pay attention to the risk of suicide among men with previous depression following a prostate cancer diagnosis.
