Summary: This study analyzed the benefits of the revolution in the management of beta-thalassemia major. The results showed that chelation therapy significantly optimized the indices and increased the proportion of patients with chelation success. Continuous magnetic resonance imaging and prolonged intensified chelation therapy can help patients achieve clearance of cardiac and liver iron load and reduce mortality.

Summary: This study analyzed the atmospheric conditions and climatic disposition of landslides in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan using a high-resolution data set. The results emphasize the crucial role of snowmelt in landslide-triggering processes. Defined thresholds for rainfall and snowmelt have shown better predictive performance in forecasting landslide events.

Summary: Reports from various countries have shown an increasing number of scabies cases, especially in the past two decades. The highest prevalence of scabies is observed in the Pacific region and Latin America, indicating a higher occurrence in developing countries, tropical climates, and areas with limited access to water. East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, tropical Latin America, and South Asia bear the greatest burden of scabies. Despite available treatment options, scabies often goes undiagnosed and untreated, emphasizing the need for prompt and coordinated actions from healthcare professionals, government institutions, and NGOs, particularly in regions with population migration and low living standards. Proper education and accessible healthcare are essential for outbreak prevention.

Summary: Iron is a crucial transition metal in physiological processes, but it can also be toxic due to its involvement in free radical formation. Impaired iron metabolism leads to iron deficiency, anemia, and iron overload, with different prevalences in transplant patients. Limited knowledge exists on iron metabolism in lung graft recipients and donors, complicated further by the potential impact of drugs. This overview highlights the importance of understanding iron turnover in transplant patients and assessing drug effects on iron metabolism for perioperative treatment in transplantology.

Summary: The recent expansion of Atlantic waters into the Arctic Ocean is clear evidence of rapid changes occurring, and understanding the past variability of this Atlantification is crucial to provide a longer perspective on modern Arctic changes. Reconstructions based on paleoceanographic records show rapid changes began in the early 20th century, before documented Atlantification. Comparison with regional records suggests a poleward expansion of subtropical waters since the end of the Little Ice Age.

Summary: This manuscript summarizes six key topics that have been at the center of global discussions on vaccine safety during the early 21st century, discussing hypotheses, evidence reviewed by the WHO's GACVS, and any significant new data. While scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports vaccine safety, better communication of scientific information is needed to address vaccine distrust.

Summary: This study found that transfusions, hemodialysis, and ECLS did not impact ferritin increases in critically ill patients. Changes in aspartate aminotransferase and sequential organ failure assessment score were identified as factors influencing ferritin change, with SOFA platelet count being associated with ferritin change in subgroups of SOFA score.

Summary: In this study, data from the third largest US dialysis organization were used to estimate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among patients receiving dialysis in the US. The results suggest that less than 1 in 4 patients had evidence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies one year after the first case was detected in the US, with similar prevalence among US adults. Vaccine introduction to specific groups may be critical in disrupting the spread of infection.

Summary: The incidence of eclampsia is higher in developing countries compared to developed countries, which may be attributed to differences in access to prenatal care, detection methods, timely delivery, and healthcare resources. Clear protocols and measures are required to prevent and manage eclampsia for better maternal and neonatal outcomes. Lack of experience in managing eclampsia is a challenge in obstetrical providers and maternity units in developed countries. Eclampsia is associated with increased risks of maternal mortality, morbidity, and long-term cardiovascular and cognitive difficulties.

Summary: The health crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted dialysis patients in France, with a higher incidence and mortality rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection among them compared to the general population. Home dialysis has been shown to reduce the risk of infection, but its development in France faces obstacles such as pricing policies, lack of training, and limited information. Proposed initiatives aim to provide objective information, expand home dialysis networks, and increase prices for home dialysis procedures to improve the situation.

Summary: Anemia is a common complication of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). This study compared the effects of different intravenous iron therapies on liver iron accumulation in dialysis patients. It was found that third-generation intravenous irons (ferric carboxymaltose and iron isomaltoside) were more effective in minimizing iron overload and preserving liver structure compared to iron sucrose.
