Summary: Treating emerging pollutants from industrial effluent is crucial for protecting human wellness and the environment. The flotation process, using surface-active agents as flotation reagents, is an effective and unique method for separating harmful pollutants. This review article discusses different types of surface-active agents used in flotation treatment and their interaction mechanisms with contaminants. Biosurfactants, with their biodegradability, low toxicity, high selectivity, and biocompatibility, offer advantages over chemical surfactants. By integrating surfactants and selecting the appropriate type, the flotation technology can become greener and more environmentally sustainable, enhancing its effectiveness in contaminant remediation.

Summary: The optimization of coagulant dosage and pH for synthetic dairy wastewater was studied using full factorial design and full factorial design with center point. The results showed that the optimal conditions for removing turbidity and COD were at pH 5.0 with 50 mg L-1 of coagulant, achieving over 98% turbidity removal with PAM and above 72% COD removal, and over 95% turbidity removal with Tanfloc and above 65% COD removal. The addition of center points in the factorial design helped estimate experimental error with fewer runs and did not affect the estimates of the factorial effects.

Summary: The study compared the efficiency of dissolved air flotation (DAF) and low-energy flash-pressurized flotation (FPF) in a pilot plant based on organic precursors, different molecular weight fractions, and disinfection byproduct reduction. Both DAF and FPF showed similar removal of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and chromatographic DOC, but exhibited differences in the removal tendency of organic fractions with different molecular weights. DAF was found to have higher removal of low molecular weight acids compared to FPF, while FPF had a lower energy consumption of approximately 55% compared to DAF.

Summary: This study reports a controllable underwater gas bubble (UGB) transport method on a surface using a magnetism-actuated robot (MAR) and biomimetic laser-ablated lubricant-impregnated slippery surfaces (LA-LISS). By leveraging the MAR and LA-LISS, UGBs can be moved along arbitrary directions and controlled using a tracing magnetic trigger. Experimental results show that UGBs can achieve ultrafast velocities on optimized LA-LISS, and the MAR can steer UGBs on inclined surfaces. Additionally, the MAR can be used for configuring UGB patterns, achieving on-demand coalescence, repairing cutoff switches, and facilitating programmable light-control-light optical shutters.
