Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to estimate the association between postpartum depression (PPD) and the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed a significantly higher prevalence and odds of PPD in those who suffered from the pandemic. The study also found that China had a lower prevalence of postpartum depression compared to other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: The term "cytokine storm" refers to a pathological autoimmune reaction triggered by destabilized interactions leading to cytokine production, potentially caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Pregnant and postpartum women are particularly at risk, with viral pulmonary infections posing potential dangers such as miscarriage and the need for ventilation support. Early detection of the rare disorder HLH in these women with moderately severe to severe COVID-19 could help reduce mortality rates.

Summary: Pregnancy has physiological effects on the cardiovascular system, putting mothers with borderline cardiovascular reserve at significant risk during labor and early postpartum period. COVID-19 is associated with subclinical myocardial injury, even in mild or asymptomatic cases and previously healthy individuals, posing challenges especially for pregnant women with moderate to severe illness.

Summary: Pregnant and postpartum women are at a higher risk of severe complications from COVID-19, so understanding their attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccines is crucial. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Brazil, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States to assess their willingness to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and reasons for vaccine hesitancy. The results showed that the vaccine acceptance varied by country, with India having the highest rate (87%) and the US having the lowest (52%). Safety concerns were the most common reason for vaccine hesitancy among the participants.

Summary: This study evaluated the factors contributing to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among pregnant and postpartum women in Kenya. The results showed that despite the perception of risk, 54% of women reported hesitancy towards the vaccine. However, over the course of two years, the willingness to receive the vaccine almost doubled.

Summary: This study examines the association between initial COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and subsequent vaccination among pregnant and postpartum individuals. It found that vaccine hesitancy persisted over time in the peripartum period, and only a small percentage of initially hesitant individuals were later vaccinated. Interventions targeting vaccine hesitancy in pregnancy are needed.
