Summary: Background anaphylaxis after COVID-19 vaccination is rare, and its management is not standardized. The authors propose allergy evaluation and prick test for individuals with specific allergy histories, aiming to improve the understanding and management of anaphylaxis to COVID-19 vaccines and facilitate vaccination for people with allergy history.

Skin tests in the work-up of cutaneous adverse drug reactions: A review and update

Annick Barbaud, Julie Castagna, Angele Soria

Summary: Skin tests, including patch tests, prick tests, and intradermal tests, are valuable in identifying the causes of cutaneous adverse drug reactions and finding safer alternative drugs. Patch tests are useful in studying maculopapular exanthema and severe drug reactions, including acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms. Prick tests are used to evaluate immediate-type hypersensitivity, while intradermal tests can be used for both immediate and delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed patients diagnosed with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) caused by chlorhexidine digluconate/benzalkonium chloride/benzyl alcohol (CBB), and found that CBB can cause ACD in all age groups. The study showed that the sensitization profile to CBB differs between adults and children.

Allergic contact dermatitis from essential oil in consumer products: Mode of uses and value of patch-tests with an essential oil series. Results of a French study of the DAG (dermato-allergy group of the French Society of Dermatology)

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical characteristics and sensitivity of patients sensitized to their own essential oils (EOs) using a patch-test series. The study included 42 patients with allergic contact dermatitis, and it was found that all patients were sensitized to the EO they used. Interestingly, a significant portion of patients did not mention the use of EOs spontaneously, and only a small percentage received advice on their use at the time of purchase.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics and sensitivity of an essential oil patch test series in patients sensitized to their own essential oils. The study included 42 patients with allergic contact dermatitis, who were found to be sensitized to the essential oils they used. The study concluded that patch tests with the European baseline series, limonene and linalool HP, and oxidized tea tree oil can effectively detect most essential oil-sensitized patients.
