Nigella sativa???????-Floral Honey and Multi-Floral Honey versus Nigella sativa Oil against Testicular Degeneration Rat Model: The Possible Protective Mechanisms

Summary: This study assessed the protective effects of Nigella sativa floral honey (NS floral honey) and multi-floral honey (M-floral honey) compared to Nigella sativa oil (NS oil) against azathioprine-induced testicular degeneration in rats. Both NS floral honey and NS oil partially restored testicular function and improved sperm quality, while the effects of M-floral honey were inconclusive. Further clinical studies are needed to investigate the bioactive constituents of these substances.

Summary: This comprehensive review article examines the traditional use of N. sativa seed and its constituents for their pharmacological effects. Experimental and clinical studies suggest that extracts and constituents of N. sativa have preventive and therapeutic effects on respiratory, allergic, and immunologic disorders. These effects are attributed to mechanisms such as bronchodilation, antioxidant, immunomodulation, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Summary: The study examines the effects of black seed oil on T cells in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). The results show that black seed oil can inhibit the proliferation of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells and induce cell death in HT patients and healthy women. It also reduces the concentration of certain cytokines.

The Potential Role of Nigella sativa Seed Oil as Epigenetic Therapy of Cancer

Summary: Nigella sativa oil, commonly known as black seed oil (BSO), contains the active compound thymoquinone (TQ) which inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis by targeting epigenetic factors and proteins. This study compared the effects of BSO and pure TQ on cancer cells and found that both had similar inhibitory and apoptotic effects. Molecular docking and simulation showed that TQ had good binding affinity to UHRF1 and HDAC1, suggesting it as a promising strategy for epigenetic therapy.

In this study, the effect of these oil fractions on airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells was investigated. Results showed that N. sativa oil inhibited the production of chemokines and had a high ROS scavenging effect.

Skin tests in the work-up of cutaneous adverse drug reactions: A review and update

Summary: Skin tests, including patch tests, prick tests, and intradermal tests, are valuable in identifying the causes of cutaneous adverse drug reactions and finding safer alternative drugs. Patch tests are useful in studying maculopapular exanthema and severe drug reactions, including acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms. Prick tests are used to evaluate immediate-type hypersensitivity, while intradermal tests can be used for both immediate and delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical characteristics and sensitivity of patients sensitized to their own essential oils (EOs) using a patch-test series. The study included 42 patients with allergic contact dermatitis, and it was found that all patients were sensitized to the EO they used. Interestingly, a significant portion of patients did not mention the use of EOs spontaneously, and only a small percentage received advice on their use at the time of purchase.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics and sensitivity of an essential oil patch test series in patients sensitized to their own essential oils. The study included 42 patients with allergic contact dermatitis, who were found to be sensitized to the essential oils they used. The study concluded that patch tests with the European baseline series, limonene and linalool HP, and oxidized tea tree oil can effectively detect most essential oil-sensitized patients.
