This paper presents a new method to measure designers' experience during ideation, by using the technique of self-observation instrumented with a device and an original software. Based on the previous concept of Design Flow and the experience fluctuation model, the proposed procedure asks participants to rate their perceived challenge and skills at each moment of their ideation session while watching the video recording. The method aims at increasing granularity of Design Flow and reducing time of interviews, while retaining the ability to analyse the ideation activity as a whole, not just selected excerpts. After performing a validation test confirming its effectiveness, we conclude that this method is a fast and practical way to obtain continuous quantitative data about designers' experience that can be analysed and triangulated with other sources of data (e.g. verbal analysis). Acceptability and Feasibility of a Return-to-Work Intervention for Posttreatment Breast Cancer Survivors: Protocol for a Co-design and Development Study

Karine Bilodeau, Marie-Michelle Gouin, Alexandra Lecours, Valerie Lederer, Marie-Jose Durand, Kelley Kilpatrick, David Lepage, Lauriane Ladouceur-Deslauriers, Tomas Dorta

Summary: The paper presents a protocol for developing and testing an innovative, interdisciplinary pilot intervention based on a co-design approach to better support return to work (RTW) and job retention after breast cancer treatment. The intervention will be developed collaboratively with cancer survivors, health care professionals, and employer and insurer representatives. A pilot intervention will be tested and its acceptability and feasibility will be evaluated, with the potential for implementation on a larger scale.

The Integration of Live Video Tools to Help Bystanders During an Emergency Call: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Simulation Study

Ophelie Morand, Robert Larribau, Stephane Safin, Romain Pages, Hortense Soichet, Caroline Rizza

Summary: This study proposes and evaluates the relevance of a living lab methodology involving video calls in simulated life-threatening emergency situations. The use of live video and video demonstration of emergency procedures increases the number of bystanders performing cardiopulmonary resuscitations and enhances collaboration within the community. The living lab approach provides valuable insights and promotes continuous improvement in emergency care.

Collaborative-Knowledge Construction Activity Method to Analyse Design-Learning in VR Co-design Crits

Hadas Sopher, Tomas Dorta

Summary: This paper introduces and explores the Collaborative Knowledge Construction Activity (Co-KCA) method, used to describe design learning and teaching activities in codesign critiques using a collaborative VR system. The method aggregates observable design decisions of each participant into measurable units, allowing for tracking individual and collaborative performance. Examples from twelve codesign critiques demonstrate the potential of the method in identifying elements of codesign learning processes.

Co-ideation critique unfolded: an exploratory study of a co-design studio 'crit' based on the students' experience

Sana Boudhraa, Tomas Dorta, Julie Milovanovic, Davide Pierini

Summary: This article describes the effects of a co-design pedagogic strategy on students' engagement in critique, focusing on how students participate in collaborative ideation loops and their feelings of flow during the critique process. The results show that students engage in collaborative ideation loops in three different ways and exhibit two design flow patterns associated with specific elements of the collaborative ideation loops.

The interplay between quality of collaboration, design project evolution and outcome in an architectural design studio

Stephane Safin, Francoise Detienne, Jean-Marie Burkhardt, Anne-Marie Hebert, Pierre Leclercq

Summary: This study investigates the collaboration dynamics in design process by observing two groups of students in an architecture studio. The results show that the quality of collaboration and design evolve independently, with 'good' collaboration being both a cause and consequence of rapid progress in design projects. The study highlights the interconnected relationship between collaboration quality, design outcomes, and project progression.
