Summary: In this study, the extraction conditions of Nostoc commune Vauch polysaccharide were optimized using single factor and orthogonal experiments, and microcapsules were prepared. The microcapsules showed good structural and thermal characteristics, and demonstrated effective wound healing ability in rat models. The mechanism behind the enhanced wound healing may involve increased levels of specific substances that enhance cellular protection and promote wound healing.

Summary: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a growing burden globally, especially in developing countries. This study investigated the effect of N. commune polysaccharides on acute colitis in mice induced by DSS and its role in mediating the gut microbiota. The results showed that N. commune polysaccharides enhanced the intestinal mucosal barrier and exhibited prebiotic-like functions, suggesting its potential as an alternative or complementary treatment for UC.

Summary: In this study, marine polymer composite microcapsules were prepared using microfluidic electrospray for wound healing. The microcapsules, composed of an alginate (ALG) core and a chitosan (CS) shell, showed excellent biocompatibility and antibacterial capacity. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) could also be loaded and sustainably released from the microcapsules. The microcapsules demonstrated their potential clinical applications by inhibiting bacterial growth and promoting angiogenesis during wound closure.

Summary: Exopolysaccharides (EPS) produced by cyanobacteria have potential biomedical applications, such as new wound dressings. Addition of acetate ions to the culture medium can stimulate EPS production, leading to gel formation and promotion of fibroblast migration and proliferation. These Nostoc EPS hydrogels show promising properties for skin injury treatment.

Summary: In this study, a novel GA liposomes encapsulated microcapsules delivery system was developed for inflammatory wound repair. The GA liposomes could be controllably released from the microcapsules, promoting M2 macrophage polarization and regulating their responses in the inflammatory wound microenvironment. The results demonstrated that the GA liposomes encapsulated microcapsules delivery system exhibited anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects for diabetic wound healing.

Summary: A new biosorbent Nostoc commune modified with NaOH has been developed and tested for efficient removal of Pb(II) from water. The adsorption capacity of the biosorbent was found to be higher than other reported biosorbents. Structural and morphological characterization revealed that the modified biosorbent had more porous surfaces and functional adsorption groups. The optimal conditions for Pb(II) adsorption were determined to be pH 4.5 and 5.5 with a biomass dose of 0.5 g L-1. The adsorption process followed Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second order kinetics, indicating chemisorption on the heterogeneous surfaces of the biosorbent. The thermodynamic parameters confirmed the feasibility and spontaneity of the adsorption process. NCM showed good regeneration capability and high removal efficiency for both Pb and Ca from real wastewater.

Summary: This study investigated the phytochemical assay and anti-obesity effects of Nostoc commune ethanol extract (NEE). The results showed that NEE contains phytochemical compounds and can suppress cell proliferation and lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Additionally, NEE was found to reduce body weight, fat tissue weight, and serum lipid levels in rats. Furthermore, NEE regulated the expression of adipogenesis and lipid lysis-related genes, as well as upregulated beta-oxidation related genes. Overall, this study suggests that NEE has the potential to be developed as a functional food for anti-obesity.

Summary: The study demonstrated that WSP can significantly inhibit the metastasis of gastric cancer cells, with its anti-metastasis ability related to the membrane protein receptor EGFRVIII. It was found that WSP inhibits the downstream EGFRVIII signaling pathway Akt-PI3K and further inhibits the secretion of cancer-related metastasis proteins such as MMP2 and MMP9.
