Summary: The study focused on delivering antigen in a nanoparticulate carrier within a powder for pulmonary delivery to the respiratory tract. It was found that by modifying the production method to prepare porous particles, acceptable antigen release could be achieved while maintaining an antigen load of about 10%. The double emulsion method was shown to be suitable for preparing nanoparticles and incorporating the antigen effectively.

Summary: This study investigated the preparation of carrier-free DPI microcomposites using spray-drying technology and explored the impact of ethanol concentrations in the stock solutions on the physicochemical characteristics and in vitro aerodynamic results of DPI formulations. Novel calculation possibilities and correlations were introduced, filling gaps in the research field, and it was found that DPI formulations containing 30% ethanol in the stock solution yielded the best in vitro aerodynamic results.

Summary: Active vitamin D3 (VD3) is a potential drug for repairing alveolar damage in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at a very low dose. The study optimized a low-dose dry powder inhalation formulation of VD3 using a simple method based on time-of-flight (TOF) theory. The optimized formulation showed high performance and efficient delivery of VD3 to the lungs, demonstrating the potential of the simple method for optimizing dry powder inhalation formulations even at low drug content.

Summary: In this work, a dry particle coating method is proposed to achieve the uniform dispersion of high content of nanoparticles in nanoflake powder through a flake design strategy. Through high-speed rotating, nanoparticles are self-assembled on flake powders through mechanical forces in a narrow clearance. It has been shown that the uniform dispersion of 6 wt% TiO2 nanoparticles on Al nanoflakes can be easily achieved. DEM simulation results indicate that the best dispersion occurs when the impact energy in both normal and tangential direction is comparable, facilitating the de-agglomeration of nanoparticles and their attachment to nanoflakes.

Summary: Pulmonary drug delivery is focused on directing drugs to lung disease sites for maximum therapeutic benefit, with capsule-based dry powder inhalers (cDPIs) being a popular and convenient option for treating a variety of diseases. cDPI technology is relatively simple, cost-effective, and has a lower carbon footprint compared to other inhaler devices.

Summary: The aggregate size distribution of soil is a key parameter in describing soil properties. The traditional dry sieving method may lead to breakdown of less-stable aggregates. This paper presents a modified measurement system using laser diffraction for direct measurement of aggregates on a dry basis, with an average coefficient of variation of about 2.6%.

Summary: This article investigates the aerodynamic interaction between front and rear propellers during the flight of eVTOLs and its impact on propeller performance and flow field. Wind tunnel tests and numerical simulations reveal that an increased degree of overlapping between the propeller disks leads to a significant loss of rear propeller thrust, and partial overlapping results in higher thrust fluctuations.

Summary: Based on drug repositioning strategy, niclosamide has shown potential for treating COVID-19. However, developing effective NCL delivery formulations remains challenging. In this study, NCL-embedded dry powder for inhalation was fabricated using a novel spray freeze drying technology. By adjusting the composition and temperature, the size, morphology, crystal properties, flowability, and aerosol performance of the SFD microparticles were systematically investigated.

Summary: Addressing antimicrobial resistance requires new approaches in various disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences. The fluoroquinolone levofloxacin (LEV) plays an important role in the therapy of lung infections. However, its effectiveness is limited by its severe side effects involving tendinopathy, muscle weakness and psychiatric disturbance. Therefore, there is a need for the development of an effective formulation of LEV with reduced systemic drug concentrations, thereby also reducing the consumption and excretion of antibiotics or metabolites.

Summary: The study investigated the vertical transport of Microplastics (MPs) in porous sand media, finding a strong positive correlation between surface hydrophobicity and MP mobility. Factors such as MP particle size, sand diameter, wet-dry cycles, and dissolved organic matter (DOM) were found to influence the migration behavior of MPs in sand. Frequent wet-dry cycles and the presence of DOM were observed to promote the vertical migration of MPs in the sand.
