Summary: In this study, a structurally novel halogen-free oligomer poly (benzoguanamine phospholipamide) (BQDP) was successfully synthesized and used as an effective flame retardant for epoxy resins. BQDP showed improved limited oxygen index (LOI) values and UL-94 ratings, as well as excellent smoke suppression performance. The combination of phosphaphenanthrene and triazine demonstrated a synergistic effect, resulting in outstanding flame-retardant properties in both gaseous and condensed phases.

Summary: Cu-Ph-POSS was synthesized by grafting Cu into Si-O-Si cage, and used to solve the problem of black smoke generated during combustion of epoxy resin (EP) in high fire safety fields. The incorporation of 2 wt% Cu-Ph-POSS into EP significantly improved thermal stability and reduced peak heat release rate (p-HRR), peak smoke production rate (p-SPR), and peak CO production rate (p-COP) by 56.8%, 44.4%, and 59.4%, respectively. The presence of polycyclic aromatic and Si-C compounds in the interior char layers effectively inhibited the release of heat, smoke, and toxic volatiles, imparting superior flame retardant and smoke suppression performances to the fabricated EP composites.

Summary: Fabricating a high-performing thermoset using bio-based flame retardant is critical for sustainable development. A novel flame retardant named DAL-x, fabricated by grafting DOPO onto lignin, is used to manufacture epoxy composites with industrial requirements. The resulting DAL-x/EP composite exhibits excellent flame retardancy and improved mechanical properties compared to pure EP. This work offers a feasible strategy for creating efficient bio-based flame retardants and preparing high-performance EP composites that meet fire retardancy requirements in industries.

Summary: In this study, we synthesized a phosphorus-containing cycloaliphatic epoxy resin and achieved flame-retardant epoxy resins by curing with a mixture of triglycidyl isocyanurate. The cured resins exhibited high curing activity, good flame retardancy, thermal stability, and dielectric performance. They also showed degradation under mild alkaline conditions. These findings suggest potential applications of the BCEP-TGIC systems in electronic packaging materials.

Summary: A heat-resistant and flame-retardant epoxy film system was developed by modifying an imidazole curing agent with 9,10-dihydro9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO). The system included a phenolic epoxy resin matrix with an oxazolidinone structure and polyethersulfone as a toughening agent. The film adhesive maintained reaction inertness at room temperature and exhibited excellent flame retardancy. With high thermal stability and good mechanical properties, the adhesive has the potential for various applications.
