Summary: This study analyzes European natural gas (NG) prices since the eve of the 2008 financial crisis. The study found that NG prices are significantly influenced by taxation, and identified similarities in NG pricing behavior through Spearman's rank correlation coefficients and hierarchical clustering analysis. Econometric tests and panel data models were applied to confirm short-term and long-term causal dependencies. Nonparametric and parametric analyses revealed differentiated pricing behavior among countries and a significant short-term relationship between LNG imports from Nigeria and NG prices. The presence of cointegration was also confirmed. The study suggests that relying on LNG imports from Nigeria may not be a wise strategic option for Europe, and alternative decarbonization options may play a prominent role in European NG markets in the near future.

Summary: Renewable energy plays a crucial role in environmental protection and combating climate change. The European Union has implemented the Renewable Energy Directive (2009/28/EC) to increase the use of renewable resources, with updated regulations in 2018. This study investigates the connection between renewable energy consumption by sector and key indicators such as energy productivity, intensity, efficiency, import dependency, research and development (R&D) allocations, and energy-related tax revenues. Panel data analysis was conducted separately for EU member states, Central and Eastern Europe, and Western Europe. The results highlight the different conditions and the potential for targeted energy policies, emphasizing the positive impact of R&D in both groups of countries.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of economic structures on the relationship between socioeconomic factors and material productivity in over 280 European regions. The results show that there are variations in how socioeconomic factors influence material productivity based on the underlying economic structures of regions, with affluence and urban agglomeration playing significant roles. Local policies should consider the idiosyncratic features of regions to address different needs and opportunities for enhancing material productivity.

Summary: This study examined the impact of population ageing on residential energy consumption in 28 EU member states from 2005 to 2018. Results showed significant variations in energy needs between different groups, with the highest energy needs group demonstrating better performance in renewable sources and energy-saving measures. Different groups require tailored policies due to their distinct energy needs.

Summary: This paper examines the factors influencing renewable energy consumption in BRICS nations from 1990 to 2015. The findings indicate that higher stringency in environmental policies and human development index have a significant and positive impact on renewable energy consumption. On the other hand, carbon dioxide emissions and gross fixed capital formation are found to have a statistically significant and negative relationship with renewable energy use. This study emphasizes the importance of stringent environmental policies and promoting renewable energy consumption.

Summary: China's aging population has had a profound impact on the sustainable development of the Chinese economy. This paper analyzes the effects of China's aging population on economic growth through household consumption and national savings using a panel vector autoregressive model based on provincial panel data from 2000 to 2020. The results indicate that an aging population hinders household consumption and encourages national savings, thereby affecting economic growth both directly and indirectly. This is particularly challenging considering China's slow population growth and the contraction of the global economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper proposes policy recommendations, such as improving pension security, developing the silver-hair industry, expanding domestic demand, encouraging fertility, and increasing human capital investment to stimulate sustainable economic development.

Summary: China's heavy carbon emission pressure as the largest carbon emitter in the world not only affects its sustainable development, but also the global climate change situation and human survival. This study investigated the dynamic interaction among renewable energy technological innovation, environmental regulation intensity, and carbon pressure in China. The results show a mutual promoting effect between renewable energy technological innovation and environmental regulation intensity, as well as between renewable energy technological innovation and carbon pressure, while a mutual inhibiting effect exists between environmental regulation intensity and carbon pressure.

Summary: Energy transformation is crucial for China's response to climate change, but the renewable energy market faces challenges such as long-term return and high financing constraints, which require support from an effective financial system. Using panel data from 30 provinces in China, this study explores the causal relationship between innovative financial instruments and renewable energy development, and finds significant spatial and temporal correlations. Additionally, industrialization, carbon emissions, and population density have positive impacts on renewable energy, while GDP per capita and urbanization have significant negative impacts. The study recommends government promotion of modern financial technologies, such as green financing, and increased green credit support from financial institutions for the renewable energy industry.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between environmental quality and renewable energy in the RECAI country group. It uses various indicators such as per capita CO2 emission, energy intensity, and Aggregate National Savings. Results show that renewable energy consumption has a positive impact on energy intensity but a negative impact on environmental quality. Fossil fuel consumption and economic growth also play significant roles in affecting environmental quality.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of renewable energy consumption and agricultural economic growth on agricultural carbon emissions in Africa from 1990 to 2019. The study used panel fully modified ordinary least square (PFMOLS) and dynamic ordinary least square (PDOLS) estimation techniques. The results showed that agricultural economic growth had a positive and significant impact on agricultural carbon emissions in Africa, while renewable energy consumption had a negative impact. The study recommends promoting the use of renewable energy and adopting agricultural practices that limit carbon emissions.

Summary: This paper measures the impact of nonrenewable energy prices on renewable energy consumption in the U.S. using VAR models with nonrenewable energy prices ordered ahead of renewable energy consumption measures. The findings suggest that shocks to nonrenewable energy prices have positive and significant impacts on renewable energy consumption. Including nonlinearities/asymmetries in nonrenewable energy prices improves the statistical significance of the responses of renewable energy consumption measures. The percentage of the variation in renewable energy consumption explained by nonrenewable energy prices is quantitatively small, and models with nonrenewable energy prices improve forecast performance compared to simple AR models.

Summary: This paper introduces a new spatial panel structural vector autoregressive model with interactive effects (ISpSVAR) that can better capture the varying effects of common factors on different spatial units. Procedures for estimating ISpSVAR are proposed based on whether common factors are observable. Simulation results support the effectiveness of the proposed model and estimation procedures.

Summary: This study analyzes the influencing factors of Environmental Performance Index (EPI) at an EU level. The results show positive relationships between EPI and factors such as area under organic farming, circular material use rate, eco-innovation index, energy productivity, gender equality in labor force participation, forest area, Human Development Index, Internet users, livestock production index, new business density, patent applications, tertiary school enrollment, renewable energy consumption, and women's representation in national parliaments. On the other hand, factors such as inequality, natural resource rents, trade volume, and environmental taxes seem to constrain the EU's environmental performance.

Summary: This study explores the determinants of renewable energy production and finds that environmental policy stringency does not influence REP, while income and education impact negatively. It also shows that an increase in policy stringency would lead to a decrease in lobbying and an increase in REP in certain countries. Additionally, an increase in public awareness promotes an increase in REP.

Summary: This paper uses text mining and semantic algorithms to tag innovative firms and offers a different perspective to classify industrial activities. By gathering information from companies' websites and extracting keywords, the paper provides a more in-depth and updated understanding of firms' activities. By matching firms' keywords, the degree of closeness between the observed firms can be explored, providing a measurement of industrial proximity. The analysis presented in this paper can offer policymakers a detailed and comprehensive picture of the innovative trajectories shaping the industrial structure in a specific geographic area.
