Summary: Crystalline products of 1R, 4R-camphor vapor diffusion into an aqueous solution of alpha-cyclodextrin were prepared and analyzed by X-ray structure analysis. Two different forms, a dimeric cavity (phase A) and a complex set of monomeric cavities (phase B), were obtained. Both structures contained camphor molecules that were disordered. Additionally, the structures were solvated by mixtures of water and ethanol. The chemical stabilities of the two structures differed significantly, with phase A being relatively stable and phase B reacting rapidly to changes in its chemical environment, leading to cracking of crystals in solution.

Summary: The formation and stabilization mechanisms of inclusion complexes between beta-cyclodextrin and five C10 aroma molecules were investigated using experimental methods and molecular dynamics simulation. The inclusion complexes had a new crystal structure and better thermal stability. The aroma molecules induced conformational changes in the inclusion complexes, with van der Waals interactions being the main driving force for their spontaneous entry into the cavity.

Summary: A new sealed-heating condition is reported to prepare the HC form of the drug/(PEG/& gamma;-CD-PPRX) complex. The guest drug in the HC form demonstrated a size-dependent stoichiometric complexation. The encapsulation efficiency of the guest drugs in the HC form complex was governed by the vapor pressure and molecular size.

Summary: Delta-CD, a minor component of a complex mixture of linear and cyclic glucans, can be synthesized in unprecedented yields by employing a unique template in an enzyme-mediated dynamic combinatorial library of cyclodextrins. NMR spectroscopy studies revealed that delta-CD can form pseudorotaxanes with up to three bolaamphiphiles. This research provides a new method for the preparative-scale synthesis of delta-CD.

Summary: The atomistic molecular dynamics simulation shows that scandenin tends to form inclusion complexes with different types of cyclodextrin, with some cyclodextrins exhibiting higher inclusivity than others. The calculations indicate that modified cyclodextrins have a stronger binding affinity to scandenin compared to the parent host molecule.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, adherence to PCSK9 inhibitors decreased among patients at high cardiovascular risk, leading to elevated LDL cholesterol levels, with few patients maintaining within the therapeutic range. Non-adherence to drug therapy was mainly due to drug prescription failure and fear of infection during the pandemic.

Summary: The crucial role of integrin in pathological processes such as tumor progression and metastasis formation has inspired intense efforts to design novel pharmaceutical agents modulating integrin functions in order to provide new tools for potential therapies. Researchers have discovered a chimeric peptide RGDechi that can specifically recognize alpha v beta 3 integrin and have altered or abolished its binding through chemical modifications. By studying the effects of these modifications, a better understanding of the structural and dynamical determinants involved in integrin recognition mechanism can be obtained.

Summary: Humans are estimated to consume several grams per week of nanoplastics through exposure to various sources of contamination. However, the effects of these polymeric particles on living systems are still largely unknown. In this study, the interaction of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) with ubiquitin is described at an atomic resolution using CD, NMR, and TEM analyses, revealing the formation of a hard protein corona. Additionally, exposure to PS-NPs in human HeLa cells leads to a significant reduction in ubiquitination. These findings suggest that PS-NPs can cause structural effects on ubiquitin, thereby affecting a vital metabolic process for cell viability.

Summary: This study found that pre-existing atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common comorbidity in COVID-19 patients, accounting for 25% of cases. Even without significant differences in cardiovascular comorbidities or treatments, pre-existing AF was independently associated with an increased risk of developing severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) during hospitalization. However, pre-existing AF did not increase the risk of in-hospital mortality.
