Summary: This review provides a systematic summary of the botany, traditional applications, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of Rhizoma phragmitis. Research has shown that Rhizoma phragmitis has antiviral, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and hypoglycemic functions, while also lowering blood lipids and protecting the liver and kidney. During the Novel Coronavirus epidemic, Rhizoma phragmitis was included in the treatment protocol, demonstrating significant antiviral effects.

Summary: This study found that Si Zhi Wan (SZW) has a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy. SZW inhibited the formation of osteoclasts and attenuated osteoclast-mediated bone resorption in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. It also promoted apoptosis of mature osteoclasts. Mechanistically, SZW exerted its effects by suppressing the NF-kappa B pathway.

Summary: This study examines the effects and mechanisms of Guizhi Shaoyao Zhimu granules (GSZGs) on bone destruction in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results demonstrate that medium and high doses of GSZGs significantly reduce paw volume and bone erosion in mice. The treatment also inhibits the generation of osteoclasts through the promotion of PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitochondrial autophagy.

Summary: Inflammation is a key factor in the development of various diseases. Developing new anti-inflammatory drugs with reduced side effects is important for treating inflammation-related diseases. Natural anti-inflammatory drugs have become an important area of research. This study investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of Paridis rhizoma extract (PRE) using rat models of acute inflammation and RAW264.7 cells. The results showed that PRE reduced inflammation and oxidative stress, and inhibited the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-KB) signaling pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in Helper T cells 17 (Th17 cells), Regulatory T cells (Treg cells), Treg/Th17, Interleukin-17 (IL-17) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that patients with T2DM had significantly increased levels of Th17 cells, IL-17 and IL-10, but decreased levels of Treg cells and Treg/Th17 ratio compared to the controls.
