Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the palliative limb care group in our institution's multidisciplinary PAVE program. The study found that these patients had high early mortality and a low risk of limb-related complications, with the majority of patients dying within a few months without requiring amputation.

Summary: The mid-to-late stages of Parkinson's disease bring increasing disability and lower quality of life. Nonmotor symptoms and psychosocial distress contribute to this impairment and can be treated to improve daily function and quality of life. A patient-centered strategy is proposed to promote psychosocial adaptation and mitigate the impact of motor, nonmotor, and psychosocial distress on quality of life and function in people with PD.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the impact of a collaborative pharmaceutical care service (CPCS) on medication safety and patient-reported outcomes for Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Comparisons were made between PD outpatients receiving the CPCS and those receiving standard of care, showing differences in medication management. The CPCS was found to effectively resolve drug-related problems and improve medication regimens, medication adherence, and quality of life through patient education and dosage adjustments.

Summary: There is currently a lack of high-quality evidence on the effectiveness and implementation of palliative care interventions for patients with COPD. Most interventions consist of long-term palliative care with care coordination and comprehensive needs assessments, but the results on effectiveness are mixed and inconclusive, with feasibility levels and acceptability being context-dependent. The most common barriers include uncertainty about the timing of referral, time availability, and accessibility.

Summary: Patients with liver disease face difficulties in accessing end-of-life care, with a higher percentage of them dying in hospitals and receiving less specialized palliative care compared to those with malignant liver disease. Caregivers of patients with non-malignant liver disease were less likely to rate the quality of end-of-life care as outstanding/excellent.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a set of quality indicators to measure access to and the quality of primary palliative care (PC) delivered to seriously ill surgical patients. After two rounds of rating by an expert panel, a total of 24 indicators were rated as valid, covering various phases of surgical care.

Summary: The integration of pediatric palliative care (PPC) should be a standard of care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. A study was conducted to establish accessible PPC with early patient involvement in a children's hospital. After an intervention on PPC, the knowledge, awareness, and attitude of physicians, nurses, and other professionals improved significantly, but their self-assessment of PPC skills remained the same.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that impacts the lives of affected individuals. Palliative care integration in Parkinson's disease management has shown promise in improving quality of life for patients, but further research is needed to support the impact on caregivers. Understanding the connections between palliative care themes is crucial for successful integration in improving the overall experiences of patients and caregivers.

Summary: Late-stage Parkinson's disease (LSPD) patients are highly dependent and require significant medical needs. The burden on caregivers and health economic impact is greater in LSPD compared to earlier stages. Motor and non-motor symptoms in LSPD often have limited response to dopaminergic treatment, especially with dementia present. Non-pharmacological interventions play a key role in managing troublesome symptoms, but feasibility is limited by cognitive impairment and difficulties in home care delivery. PD_Pal, an ongoing European project, aims to address the challenge of offering person-centered, home-delivered palliative care for LSPD.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between supportive care needs (SCNs), satisfaction with quality of life (QoL) dimensions, and the perceived importance of these dimensions among 152 cancer patients receiving palliative care. The results showed that the greatest SCNs were observed for absence of pain, while the patients were least satisfied with their physical functioning and the dimension social relationships received the highest perceived importance ratings.

Summary: This study evaluated the correlation between anthropometric variables and the quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's disease. The results showed that quality of life was worse in terms of body discomfort, social support, and mobility, and it deteriorated with advanced age. There were also correlations between the worst scores in quality of life dimensions and nutritional status.

Summary: This study aims to systematically identify and synthesize evidence to examine the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions on psychological outcomes among older people with frailty. The results showed that group-based physical exercise can reduce depressive symptoms among older people with frailty, but the effects of other non-pharmacological interventions on psychological outcomes are still unclear. Therefore, more rigorous trials are needed to further study the effects of non-pharmacological interventions on psychological outcomes among older people with frailty.

Summary: Palliative care is associated with lower symptom burden and higher caregiver and patient satisfaction in patients with progressive neurologic diseases. However, the associations are not significant after excluding studies with high risk of bias. The effects of palliative care on caregiver burden and patient quality of life are inconclusive.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of acupotomy and acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis. The results showed that acupotomy was more effective in improving daily activity function, relieving pain, and improving knee scores compared to acupuncture. However, there was a potential risk of adverse events in the acupotomy group. Therefore, acupotomy is a more effective treatment for knee osteoarthritis than acupuncture, but more high-quality studies are needed for validation.

Summary: This study aimed to develop an objective assessment method for cancer-related fatigue (CRF) based on heart rate variability (HRV). By collecting HRV parameters from patients for seven consecutive days and correlating them with fatigue levels, effective fatigue monitoring results were obtained. The study showed that a HRV-based classifier could accurately identify mild and moderate levels of fatigue.

Summary: Newborns can acquire immunological protection against SARS-CoV-2 through vaccine-conferred antibodies in human breast milk. The levels of antibodies in breast milk peaked at one week after the second dose of BNT162b2 vaccine and subsequently rapidly declined. The composition of breast milk microbiota changed dynamically throughout the vaccination regimen, but probiotic species did not significantly decrease after vaccination. Baseline breast milk bacterial composition can predict spike-specific IgA levels at one week post-second dose.
