Organic nonlinear opticall-phenylalanined-mandelic acid (LPDMA) single crystals have been harvested adopting slow solvent evaporation solution growth technique (SSEST) with growth period of 15 days. The XRD studies of the crystal confirm the non-centrosymmetric nature of the crystal. The presence of functional groups for the formation of the compound was confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis. The UV-Visible spectral studies ascertained linear optical quality and estimation of optical parameters. The nonlinear optical property was studied from Kurtz-Perry powder technique andZ-scan technique. The quantum chemical calculations such as HOMO-LUMO and Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) were calculated and presented. In order to find out various mechanical parameters such as Vicker's hardness number (H-v), Mayer's index (n), yield strength (sigma(y)) and stiffness constant (C-11), Vicker's microhardness tester was utilized.

The effect of magnesium chloride doping on structural, thermal, optical, nonlinear optical and electrical properties of Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate single crystal

K. Manimekalai, P. Jayaprakash, N. Padmamalini, S. Rama

Summary: Using the slow evaporation technique, pure potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystal (KH2PO4) and magnesium chloride doped KH2PO4 crystal (MCKH2PO4) were successfully grown at room temperature. Characterization studies showed that KH2PO4 and MCKH2PO4 have similar crystal structures and lattice parameters. Spectroscopic analysis revealed the functional groups of KH2PO4 and MCKH2PO4, and UV-Vis-NIR studies provided information about the optical properties of the crystals. The efficiency of MCKH2PO4 in second harmonic generation was found to be 1.02 times higher than that of KH2PO4. Mechanical behavior, thermal analysis, and third-order susceptibility were also investigated.

Role of defects on the nonlinear optical properties of La doped Bi2WO6 nanostructures for optical device applications

S. Shanthi, N. Angeline Little Flower, R. Annie Sujatha, G. Vinitha, K. Mani Rahulan

Summary: Lanthanum-doped bismuth tungstate nanostructures were successfully synthesized by chemical method and their third order nonlinear optical properties were investigated. The effects of La doping on the optical, structure, chemical composition, and morphology of the nanostructures were confirmed. The addition of La dopant resulted in a shift in the absorption edge towards higher wavelength and a decrease in the band gap values. Nonlinear absorption and refraction characteristics were found to increase upon La doping.

Influence of holmium ions on the structural and optical properties of barium tellurite glasses

P. Vani, G. Vinitha, R. Praveena, M. Durairaj, T. C. Sabari Girisun, N. Manikandan

Summary: In this study, barium tellurite glasses doped with holmium ions were synthesized and investigated for their optical applications. Compositional tuning led to the optimization of the optical bandgap and refractive index values. The green emission from the samples showed a dominant behavior in the visible region, but concentration quenching effects were observed beyond a certain doping level. The samples also exhibited good optical non-linearity and reverse saturable absorption behavior under nanosecond pulsed laser excitation.
