Summary: A novel TiO2 thin film was prepared on ceramic hollow fibers using sol-gel method with PVP and PVA as additives. The effects of different PVP and PVA contents on the properties of TiO2 sol and the performance of ultrafiltration membranes were thoroughly investigated. The membrane with 1.0 wt% PVP and 0.8 wt% PVA showed superior separation performance and antifouling properties.

Summary: Visible-light-photoactive titania micro- or nanoparticles have shown great potential in various industrial applications, especially in environmental remediation. The sol-gel method, with its simplicity, versatility, and green chemistry approach, has been successfully employed for synthesizing crystalline and amorphous TiO2 micro- and nanoparticles. This short review aims to discuss the recent advancements in visible-light-photoactive titania-based nanoparticles for environmental remediation. Co-doping of titania, titania composite design, and the use of amorphous networks have been the most commonly used strategies to achieve this goal. Finally, predictions about the future developments in these fields are provided.

Summary: Fabrication and scaling of disordered hyperuniform materials are still facing challenges, but a hybrid top-down/bottom-up approach has been demonstrated for faithful reproduction of such materials. The antireflective character of titania structures on silicon shows potential applications, opening up possibilities for large-scale implementation of metal oxide-based nano- and microarchitectures in wet chemical assembly.

Summary: Two titania photocatalysts were prepared using the sol-gel method with TiCl4 as a precursor and either ethanol or propanol as solvents. The study aimed to investigate the effect of the solvent on the chemical, structural, and photocatalytic properties of the final solids for paracetamol degradation. The results showed that the choice of solvent significantly influenced the characteristics and catalytic activity of the synthesized oxides.

Summary: In this study, Co3O4/N-doped carbon materials and Co-Co3O4/N-doped carbon materials were prepared using the sol-gel method. Calcination and acid-base inhibition were employed to enhance the catalytic performance of the materials. The materials prepared using ethylene glycol and glycerol exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the hydrogenation reduction reaction. Additionally, using acrylamide as the source of carbon and nitrogen resulted in highly active Co-Co3O4/NC nanocatalysts.

Summary: Using the sol-gel route, a GdMnO3-GdMn2O5 nanocomposite was synthesized at 1000 degrees C. For the first time, Raman, magnetic, and dielectric measurements were taken of the synthe-sized composite under room temperature conditions. The results confirmed the formation of GdMnO3 and GdMn2O5, detected the presence of a bi-phase structure, and showed weak ferromagnetic behavior and temperature-sensitive dielectric properties in the synthesized composite.

Summary: Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are a sustainable and versatile means of energy production. In this study, the impact of unsteady wind conditions on the performance of VAWTs with deflectors is analyzed using the Taguchi method and a neural network model. The results show that the mean TSR has the greatest impact on the power coefficient, and the optimal operation of the VAWTs can be significantly improved under the guidance of the neural network model.
