Summary: This study aimed to compare the performance of the 2018 European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) criteria and the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) criteria for noninvasive diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that there were no significant differences in sensitivity and specificity between the EASL criteria and LI-RADS criteria. Subgroup analyses also showed no significant differences for different size observations.

Summary: The study systematically compared the performance of CT/MRI LI-RADS category 5 (LR-5) for diagnosing HCC between 2017 and 2018 versions, finding no significant difference in sensitivity and specificity between the two versions. The most common underlying liver disease (hepatitis B or hepatitis C) was a significant factor contributing to the heterogeneity of sensitivities among studies for both versions.

Summary: This study examined cancer screening adherence among cancer survivors in Utah and found that many survivors did not receive recommended screenings for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. The findings highlight the importance of public health efforts to address demographic disparities in cancer screening and ensure that all cancer survivors receive appropriate screenings.

Summary: The study evaluated the validity of self-reported cancer in the Lifelines population-based cohort in the Netherlands. It found that self-reported cancer has a high positive predictive value and moderate sensitivity, but around one third of cancers were not reported, mainly skin and cervical cancers. Male participants, those with a lower educational level, and those with longer time since diagnosis were less likely to self-report diagnosed cancer.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to determine the threshold for iodine quantification to distinguish between non-enhancing benign renal lesions and potential enhancing masses on portal venous dual-layer spectral computed tomography (CT), in order to reduce the need for additional multiphase CT. By analyzing the data, thresholds for non-enhancing lesions and enhancing masses were determined, which can help doctors make diagnoses and reduce unnecessary examinations.

Summary: This study investigates the correlation and diagnostic accuracy of quantitative cerebral blood flow and non-quantitative perfusion weighted imaging measurements in brain tumour surveillance using arterial spin labelling MRI. The results show that there is a high correlation between ASL-PWI ratios and ASL-CBF ratios and their diagnostic accuracy is comparable. Therefore, quantification of ASL-CBF can be omitted in these patients and visual assessment provides the same diagnostic accuracy as quantitative measurements.

Summary: The survival of patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in all Nordic countries over the past decades. The study shows that the survival rate has improved for both men and women in all age groups. The largest improvement was observed in Danish men and women with rectal cancer. The probability of death and life-years lost varied across countries.

Summary: This study used a large number of cancer cases to estimate sensitivity and specificity for various cut-off values in CRC screening using FIT. The optimal cut-off value in an FIT population-based screening program is 45 ng Hb/ml when sensitivity and specificity are equally weighted. However, alternative optimal cut-off values of 125/80/175/350 ng Hb/ml are suggested if a lower number of colonoscopies are accepted to find one cancer.

Summary: Empirical evidence suggests that there is a significant bidirectional association between mental disorders and physical diseases, but the prospective impact of mental disorders on clinical outcomes of physical diseases has not been fully examined. This umbrella review analyzed systematic reviews with meta-analysis to identify the association between mental disorders and clinical outcomes of physical diseases. The study found that mental disorders increase the risk of adverse clinical outcomes in various physical diseases, and prevention targeting these disorders can reduce the incidence of negative outcomes. Summary: The aim of this study was to identify a drug for repurposing in the treatment of bipolar depression. A gene expression signature was generated using human neuronal-like cells to represent the effects of drugs used to treat bipolar disorder. Trimetazidine was identified as a potential candidate for repurposing based on its similar transcriptional effects and its ability to increase ATP production.

Summary: Minocycline has been found to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic properties, which has led to a renewed interest in using it as an adjunctive treatment for psychiatric and neurological conditions. A systematic review and meta-analysis of the available data from clinical trials using minocycline was conducted, showing limited and difficult to interpret results for most conditions, but suggesting an overall benefit for using minocycline as an adjunctive treatment for schizophrenia.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and narrative synthesis of low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets (LC/KD) in adults with mood and anxiety disorders. Although there is no high-quality evidence of LC/KD efficacy in mood or anxiety disorders, several uncontrolled studies suggest possible beneficial effects. Robust studies are now needed to demonstrate efficacy, identify clinical groups who may benefit, and characterize adverse effects and the risk of relapse after diet discontinuation.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between the use of cardiovascular drugs and metformin and the risk of initiating antidepressant use. The findings suggest that ARBs and CCBs as monotherapy may reduce the risk, while ASA or statins as polytherapy may also decrease the risk. However, the limitations in the study design may introduce bias.

Summary: Objective Person-centred growth-oriented language and care are vital in mental health care. The testimonies in the Final Report of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System highlight the need for a compassionate and hope-filled system, which can be achieved through person-centred growth-oriented language. There is a lack of understanding about the process and language involved in individuals' mental health growth. Recovery should not just mean returning to baseline, but should also involve daily personal growth and improvement towards mental health.

Summary: This study investigated the diagnostic utility of blood biomarkers of neuronal injury, specifically neurofilament light, in differentiating neurodegenerative disorders from primary psychiatric disorders (PPD). The results showed that neurofilament light could accurately distinguish behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) from PPD. Large reference data sets and models were used to interpret individual levels, and slightly higher neurofilament light levels were found in bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) compared to controls and treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS).

Summary: This study conducted a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to explore the effects of dietary fibers on depressive and anxiety outcomes. The results showed a negative correlation between fiber intake and depressive and anxiety outcomes in observational studies. However, current randomized controlled trials did not support the use of fiber supplementation for improving depressive or anxiety outcomes. Further research, including clinical trials in specific populations and using a wider range of fiber types, is needed.
