Summary: This study explored the association between somatic symptoms and subthreshold depression (SD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and determined the predictive potential of somatic symptoms in identifying SD and MDD in primary care. The results showed that somatic symptoms were associated with the presence of SD and MDD, and energy-related symptoms had good predictive potential.

Summary: MDD is characterized by persistent depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in previously enjoyable activities, recurrent thoughts of death, and physical and cognitive symptoms. It is a complex disorder caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, psychological and biological factors. Treatment involves pharmacological therapy with antidepressant medications, psychotherapy or a combination of both, and other biological therapies may be considered for severe and/or treatment-resistant cases.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence rates and patterns of major depressive disorder (MDD) and subthreshold depressive symptoms (SDS) in south China. The results showed a weighted prevalence rate of 2.5% for MDD and 14.7% for SDS. Factors such as gender, age, marital status, lifestyle, and health conditions were found to be positively associated with both MDD and SDS. The study highlights the high prevalence of depression in Guangdong province and calls for attention from policymakers and healthcare professionals.

Summary: This study examined the association between stressful life events (SLEs) and subthreshold depressive symptoms (SDS) and major depressive disorder (MDD), with a focus on gender effects. The findings showed that individuals who experienced any SLEs were at a higher risk of SDS and MDD. The association between SLEs and SDS was stronger in females, while the association between SLEs and MDD was stronger in males.

Summary: Subthreshold depression is a condition that significantly impacts quality of life and increases the risk of developing major depressive disorder. Through a systematic search and analysis of 15 studies, it was found that non-pharmacological interventions have a significant effect in preventing the onset of MDD and improving depressive symptoms. These interventions were particularly effective in general adult populations, during short-term follow-up periods, among pregnant women, and in universal prevention programs. Timely detection and treatment of subthreshold depression is feasible and important in effectively delaying or preventing the onset of major depressive disorder.

Summary: This study compared the expression of depressive symptoms between postpartum depression (PPD) and non-perinatal major depression episode (MDE). The results showed that women with PPD were more likely to have appetite disturbance, psychomotor symptoms, and fatigue, while sadness, anhedonia, sleep disturbance, and suicidal ideation were less common. There were no significant differences in the global structure of depressive symptoms, but the centrality of symptoms differed, with sadness being more central for MDE and suicidal ideations being more central for PPD.

Summary: Regulatory problems in infancy, including excessive crying, feeding-eating and sleeping, are associated with mental health problems in school ages. This review aims to systematically review longitudinal community-based studies on the combined regulatory problems and mental health outcomes in early childhood. Based on the review of literature published from 2000 to 2020, six papers were included, providing data on two or more regulatory problems among a total of 20,675 children. The review indicates that combined regulatory problems in infancy serve as early markers for mental health problems during early childhood, emphasizing the need for research and preventive interventions targeting early manifestations of childhood dysregulation.

Summary: The study found that Mind My Mind (MMM) cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in treating common emotional and behavioral mental health problems in youth, but not all individuals respond satisfactorily to treatment. The analysis revealed that youths with any mental disorder at baseline, comorbidity, and longer duration of untreated mental health problems showed superior treatment benefits. This highlights the importance of community-based programs like MMM for youth with substantial mental health problems.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the engagement and theoretical drivers of camouflaging behavior in the general population. The findings revealed a similar dimensional structure of camouflaging behavior in the general population compared to previous studies on autism. Social motivational factors, such as social comparison, public self-consciousness, internalized social stigma, and social anxiety, were identified as significant predictors of camouflaging behavior. These findings highlight the shared social coping experience of camouflaging in the general population, including autistic individuals.

Patients with self-reported ADHD symptoms were more severe in their GD and experienced more severe relapses following treatment. Therefore, more vigilant follow-up and interventions are needed for patients with this comorbidity.
