Summary: This study investigated the effects of foliar application of silicon (Si) and selenium (Se) on tomato growth, yield, and fruit quality. The results showed that Si and Se application improved plant growth and increased yield. Se addition also increased the concentrations of beneficial compounds in the fruits, while Si had limited effects on fruit quality. Combined application of Si and Se did not show significant superior effects on fruit quality compared to individual applications. This study provides a theoretical base for the application of Si and Se fertilizers in tomato production.

Summary: This study investigated four spectral indices for segmenting yellow flower pixels in high-resolution RGB images of canola and compared their efficiency in predicting canola seed yield. The High-resolution Flowering Index (HrFI) and Modified Yellowness Index (MYI) were identified as better predictors of canola yield compared to other indices.

Summary: Protection of plants against herbivorous pests is crucial for agricultural efficiency. Modern methods, such as biofortification with selenium, treatment with silicon, and utilization of garlic extracts, not only defend plants but also improve yield and nutritional value of crops through different defense mechanisms.

Summary: Spraying potassium and calcium silicate can significantly reduce seed shattering and increase yield in canola. Additionally, canola plants treated with silicon compounds have higher chlorophyll and carotenoid content, and calcium silicate and potassium silicate treatments increase the silica content in siliques. Foliar spray with calcium silicate and potassium silicate also significantly increases seed yield, with the highest oil yield achieved under potassium silicate treatment.

Summary: Recently, LTA-Se(1-8) samples with 1-8 Se atoms per cavity were obtained via adsorption at about 450 degrees C, and it was found that single Se-8 or Se-12 rings were formed in the large LTA cavities. In this study, LTA-Se(17) was successfully encapsulated using Se vapor adsorption at around 550 degrees C, and double Se8-ring cluster formation was observed in most of the LTA large cavities, indicating progress towards cluster crystal fabrication. The presence of luminescent Se-2(-) anions in LTA-Se(17) suggests its potential as a novel light-emitting material.

Summary: Low selenium concentrations in soils and plants are a health risk for ruminants. Previous studies have shown that soil-applied selenate amendments can increase selenium concentrations in forages. However, the effects of foliar selenate amendments applied with traditional fertilizers on forage yields and nutrient contents are unknown.

Summary: This study successfully transformed the unstable silicogermanate into a stable aluminosilicogermanate using post-synthetic isomorphic substitution. The resulting material showed promising performance in the catalytic transformation of bulky molecules, suggesting potential applications for stable derivatives of silicogermanate zeolites.

Summary: Blackleg, caused by Leptosphaeria maculans, is a significant disease of canola. Recently, Verticillium stripe has emerged as another disease threat. The study explored the impact of blackleg on yield using field experiments and evaluating different hybrids in commercial crops. It was found that the interaction between L. maculans/V. longisporum may cause more severe losses in canola, indicating the need for proactive disease management strategies.

Summary: Including winter canola in crop rotations can diversify the US agricultural systems and satisfy market demand for plant-based edible oil. Environmental factors have a larger impact on seed oil concentration than genetic factors. The US Midwest and Great Plains regions are suitable for producing canola with high seed oil concentration. Expanding canola cropland and breeding high-yielding, stable high seed oil concentration varieties show significant potential.
