Summary: In a systematic review and meta-analysis, it was found that RDW was significantly higher in RA patients, suggesting that it may serve as a useful biomarker for the diagnosis of RA and complement other clinical information.

Summary: The study compared the admission MPV and PVDW in dogs with CPV enteritis to healthy age-matched control dogs, finding that CPV-infected dogs had significantly higher levels of MPV and PVDW compared to controls. This suggests significant platelet activation in dogs with CPV enteritis, similar to people with sepsis, which may impact disease outcome. Further studies are needed to investigate the prognostic ability of MPV in dogs with CPV enteritis.

Summary: This study found that higher mean platelet volume (MPV) was significantly associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), especially in older, male, or overweight patients, or those with poor glycemic control. High MPV was independently correlated with MetS after adjusting for various factors, suggesting its potential role as a biomarker for MetS in T2DM patients.

Summary: Understanding the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in patients with diabetes mellitus is important for preventing morbidity and mortality. This study investigated the prevalence of these risk factors in diabetes patients with and without metabolic syndrome. The findings showed a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in diabetes patients, suggesting a need for interventions such as reducing smoking and alcohol consumption, as well as controlling hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity.

Summary: The platelet volume indices (PVI) are generally elevated in COVID-19 patients, with a correlation to disease severity and mortality. However, there is inconsistent evidence from longitudinal studies, and the clinical utility of PVI is currently limited.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between red cell distribution width (RDW), platelet distribution width (PDW) values, and mortality in patients with acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The results indicated that increased RDW values may be associated with DVT, while increased PDW values may be associated with mortality. Following RDW and PDW values could potentially serve as early indicators of thrombosis and poor prognosis.

Summary: The study focused on platelet indices in TB, DM and TB-DM patients to assess their predictive value. The results showed that MPV and PCT might be good markers to distinguish TB + DM patients from TB or DM individuals, supporting earlier clinical diagnosis, prevention, and therapy.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the combination of RDW and MPV in predicting cardiovascular events in patients with STEMI, finding an association between RDW and MPV with death or adverse cardiovascular events. MPV was significantly associated with adverse events in STEMI patients treated with PCI, while RDW had a weaker association.

Summary: The study showed positive correlation of mean platelet volume (MPV) with anxiety and depression, and negative correlation of platelet distribution width (PDW) with anxiety and depression. Logistic regression analysis revealed significant association of MPV with both depression and anxiety.
