Summary: This study compared burden estimates and methods of the Australian Burden of Disease Study (ABDS) and the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBDS). The differences in estimates reflect the different purposes and strategies of the two studies. The GBDS provides a useful tool for international comparisons, while national studies like the ABDS have the advantage of meeting local needs and accessing unpublished data. It is important to assess the quality and appropriateness of all data sources, inputs, and models.

Summary: This study provides a systematic analysis of the global burden of Down syndrome (DS) from 2010 to 2019. It reveals that while the DALY and YLL rate for DS remain stable, the YLD rate is increasing. There are significant differences in DS burden among regions or countries. The study suggests that future strategies should focus on DS-related deaths in children younger than 1 year and the DS burden in low-SDI regions or countries to further reduce the DS burden.

Summary: Globally, the contribution of Years Lived with Disability (YLD) to Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) has increased over time, with HIV, mental health, musculoskeletal, neurological, and sense organ disorders being the main contributors in South Africa. The differences in trends between South Africa and other regions can be attributed to the high burden of HIV and non-communicable diseases in the country, highlighting the urgent need for strategies to integrate disability and rehabilitation services into chronic disease management.

Summary: The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 virus has disproportionately affected people with chronic diseases, including diabetes, with a higher risk of hospitalization and mortality. The pandemic has had significant indirect effects on healthcare delivery, as well as lasting impacts on those directly infected. This review summarizes the impact of acute COVID-19 on people with diabetes, discusses changes in presentation and epidemiology during the pandemic, and considers the broader impact on patients and healthcare service delivery, highlighting areas of uncertainty. Recommendations are provided for prioritizing patients during the recovery phase and protecting people with diabetes in the future, as COVID-19 is expected to become endemic.

Summary: The outbreak of COVID-19 has caused global pandemic threat, affecting various organs including the testis and male genital tract. The renin-angiotensin system and related proteins play an important role in the cellular entry of the virus, with high ACE 2 expression in the male genital system increasing the significance of this pathway. This paper focuses on exploring the mechanisms underlying the damage caused by COVID-19 to the male reproductive system.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between cryptocurrency price volatility and liquidity during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings indicate that cryptocurrencies have emerged as potential safe-haven assets during times of financial market panic. The liquidity of cryptocurrency markets increased significantly after the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic. The results suggest significant interactions between cryptocurrency price and liquidity, supporting the argument that substantial investments entered the cryptocurrency markets as a safe-haven during this exceptional black-swan event.

Summary: This study compares the organizational aspects of whole genome sequencing (WGS) and whole exome sequencing (WES) for pediatric patients with suspected genetic disorders in Italy. The results show that WES requires more genome rearrangement analysis, while WGS has higher data storage and security requirements and is only used for specific research studies. No difference was found in centralization and decentralization issues. Both WES and WGS reduce the need for additional diagnostic analyses, but economic evidence gaps exist for WGS in clinical settings.
