Summary: Tin coordination derivatives have notable advantages in terms of availability, safety, and stability, making them promising for applications in medicine and materials science. The location and gap between frontier molecular orbitals are crucial factors in determining their properties. In this study, new penta-, hexa-, and hepta-coordinated tin(iv) derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The influence of hypercoordination and bond formation with N-donor ligands on the control and tuning of HOMO and LUMO levels was demonstrated through spectroscopic and electrochemical analyses.

Summary: We synthesized and analyzed nine unique copper(II) hydrazylpyridine salicylaldehyde and 1,10-phenanthroline complexes. It was found that these complexes exhibited higher anticancer activity and lower cytotoxicity towards normal cells compared to other substances. Specifically, Cugdupt1 and Cugdupt8 induced cell death through ATP depletion and activation of mitophagy pathways.

Summary: Mononuclear Sm(III) complexes with luminous and conducting behavior were synthesized using fluorinated organic chromophoric moiety and heteroaromatic Lewis bases. Spectroscopic analysis showed that diketone and coligand were attached to Sm(III) metal ion via oxygen (-O) and nitrogen (-N) donor atom, respectively. The optical and electronic band gap data suggested the conducting character of the complexes. The absorption patterns exhibited broad bands, and upon UV irradiation, the emission patterns showed characteristic peaks in the visible region. The CIE color coordinates confirmed the luminescent nature of the complexes in the orange-red region, indicating their potential in producing optoelectronic materials.

Summary: This report presents highly cytotoxic Re(I) carbonyl complexes with low nanomolar activity against prostate cancer cells, highlighting the potential of using rhenium in cancer treatment. Eight aqua complexes with a general formula of fac-[Re(CO)(3)(N,N'-bid)(H2O)][NO3] were synthesized and characterized. The cytotoxicity of these complexes was evaluated on prostate cancer cells, with three complexes showing very low cytotoxic activity and selectivity over normal cells. Further experiments revealed the mitochondrial and nuclear localization of the most selective complexes, as well as their impact on mitochondrial dysfunction and ATP production in cancer cells.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of methyl and phenyl substituents in specific positions of the phen ligand on the structural and photophysical properties of [W(CO)(4)(phen-type)] complexes. The substituents significantly influence geometrical parameters, particularly the (OC)(eq)-W-(CO)(eq) angle, affecting the photophysical properties. The perturbation of the (OC)(eq)-W-(CO)(eq) angle induced by the substituents in the phen ligand plays a crucial role in determining the photophysical properties of these complexes.

Summary: Two fluorescent sensors, 2-(2-fluorophenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (L1) and 2-(2-iodophenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (L2), based on 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesized. The sensors were investigated for their recognition of various metal ions through UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. The results showed that L1 and L2 could detect Zn2+ through significant fluorescence enhancement and color changes visible to the naked eye. The sensors exhibited high sensitivity with detection limits as low as 0.092 µM and 0.12 µM, respectively, indicating their potential for trace Zn2+ detection. The binding stoichiometry ratio of L1-Zn2+ and L2-Zn2+ was determined to be 3:1 using the Job's plot method. The test strip and water sample tests demonstrated their potential application in environmental ion identification.

Summary: In this study, a series of mononuclear non-oxido vanadium(IV) complexes are synthesized and characterized. The complexes show distorted octahedral or trigonal prismatic arrangement around the metal center. The EPR and DFT data suggest the coexistence of different isomers in solution, and the ESI-MS results indicate partial oxidation of the complexes. The complexes exhibit moderate binding affinity towards bovine serum albumin and show cytotoxicity against cancer cells by inducing cell death through apoptosis.

Summary: In this study, a combinatory antitumoral nanotherapy was developed using magneto-fluorescent nanoparticles as carriers for a combination of two drugs (doxorubicin and ofloxacin) and surface modification with two targeting agents (AZM-SH and Cetuximab). The results showed that the nanoparticles modified with AZM-SH had higher cellular uptake than those modified with Cetuximab, making them more effective for colorectal cancer cells. Furthermore, the oral administration of the nanoparticles with an enteric coating was successfully achieved under extreme conditions.

Summary: Polarity-sensitive dansyl derivatives L1 and L2 were synthesized and their ability to sense pollutant metal ions was investigated. Both L1 and L2 exhibited high sensitivity towards Cu2+ and Hg2+ metal ions, with L2 capable of detecting and quantifying Hg2+ concentrations as low as 2.5 μM. Additionally, both compounds showed positive sol-vatofluorochromic behavior, modulated in the presence of water, leading to fluorescence enhancement through aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Luminescent L1-based polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-polystyrene (SBS) microparticles were successfully prepared, demonstrating the potential applications of dansyl-derivatives in biomedicine and environmental fields.

Summary: Three novel bis-dansyl derivatives with a sulfur bridge were synthesized and their photophysical properties were studied in solution and in the solid state. The compounds exhibited fluorescence emission with quantum yields up to 60%, which depended on the solvent and molecular structure. Positive solvatofluorochromic behavior was observed, with emission ranging from bluish-green to yellow. The compounds showed high sensitivity to Cu2+ and Hg2+ ions, and one compound (L2) could detect and quantify up to 4 μM of Hg2+. Polymer thin films were fabricated to establish a linear relationship between emission and temperature, suggesting the potential application of these compounds as molecular thermometers.

Summary: This study presents a simple method for fabricating Au@Pd bimetallic branched nanoparticles, which allow for tunable optical response, using polyallylamine-stabilized branched AuNPs as template cores for Pd overgrowth. The concentration of PdCl4(2-) and ascorbic acid (AA) can be manipulated to alter the palladium content, enabling the growth of a Pd shell up to approximately 2 nm thick. The presence of palladium on the surface of gold nanoparticles enhances their catalytic properties, as demonstrated through a comparison of nanoenzymatic activity.
