Summary: This study demonstrated that ethanol crude extract of S. repanda inhibited the growth, adhesion, migration, and invasion of human non-small-cell lung and colorectal cancer cells. The anti-metastatic properties of S. repanda may be associated with the inhibition of MMP-2/-9 expression. These findings suggest that S. repanda could be a potential source of anti-metastasis agents in cancer therapy.

Summary: The study utilizes a near-infrared-II (NIR-II) organic donor-pi-acceptor-pi-donor probe, FE-2PEG, for high-performance bioimaging. FE-2PEG shows efficient passive enrichment in orthotopic CRC, metastatic mesenteric LNs, and peritoneal metastases. NIR-II fluorescence-guided surgery can accurately resect peritoneal micrometastases.

Summary: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play crucial roles in cancer metastasis and chronic inflammatory diseases, while ginsenosides have therapeutic potentials. Ginsenosides exhibit anti-metastatic and anti-inflammatory activities by suppressing MMPs through regulation of various signaling pathways.

Summary: The study highlights the oncogenic role of TR4 in the development of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), driving PTC progression by promoting cell invasion and migration. The TR4/circFLNA/miR-149-5p/MMP9 signaling axis plays a central role in cell invasion and migration of PTC cells, suggesting that targeting this pathway may be an alternative option for metastatic PTC patients.

Summary: The study found that Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) can promote migration and metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells by upregulating Matrix metalloproteinase 7 (MMP7), and F. nucleatum and MMP7 may serve as potential therapeutic targets for suppressing CRC progression and metastasis.

Summary: This article demonstrates a multimodal optical system that combines fluorescence micro-endoscopy and spectroscopy with oblique illumination. The system utilizes a graded index rod-lens for compactness and portability, and overcomes the issue of undesired reflections. Experimental results show that the system has high spatial and spectral resolution.

Summary: EF-24, an analog of curcumin, has demonstrated enhanced bioavailability and various anti-cancer properties. It inhibits the invasion of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by interfering with the nuclear translocation of NF-kappa B and the activation of JNK, leading to the transcriptional suppression of MMP-9 gene. These findings suggest the potential use of curcumin analogs with increased bioavailability in controlling the spread of NPC.

Summary: Previous MMP-13 inhibitor RF036 had limited solubility and stability issues, hindering further in vitro and in vivo studies. A newly designed inhibitor, named inhibitor 3, with improved solubility and stability, effectively inhibited MMP-13-mediated osteoclastogenesis and is considered a potential next-generation probe for breast cancer metastasis in vivo studies.

Summary: National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is associated with increased public interest in colorectal cancer based on Google search trends, but it has not resulted in a significant increase in screening rates. There is an opportunity to use this increased public interest to encourage more individuals to undergo screening.
