Summary: In this study, ESI-MS coupled with CID was used to distinguish the isomeric methyl nucleosides by analyzing their fragmentation patterns and molecular structures. Structurally relevant fragments were obtained to efficiently identify the isomerides, providing a promising method for quantitative study and detection of unknown methyl nucleosides.

Summary: The study highlights the detrimental effects of unexpected fragmentation on the analysis of substituted phenethylamines during ESI, affecting accurate identification and quantification. The fragment ion yield produced by ESI in-source CID can be estimated by the dissociation rate constant and internal energy of the analyte ion, determined by employing density functional theory calculations and the survival yield method.

Summary: This article reports a study on a complex molecule of lithium nickelate benzyne. By evaluating its reactivity, the researchers discovered that this classical molecule is actually a unique octanuclear complex and confirmed it through X-ray crystallography and NMR studies. This finding provides new insights into organonickel chemistry and catalysis.

Summary: Betulinic acid has been extensively studied for its antiproliferative and antitumor effects in various cancers. In this study, the metabolic transformation of BA in mouse plasma was investigated using ESI Orbitrap MS and CID MS/MS. The results revealed different phase I and phase II metabolic reactions, and the fragmentation pathway of BA and its metabolites was elucidated through CID MS MS experiments.

Summary: This article highlights new developments in the field of Lewis acidity, focusing on novel Lewis acids and Lewis superacids of group 2, 13, 14, and 15 elements. It emphasizes the general nature of Lewis acidity phenomena and their vital role in different areas of chemistry. The basic principles of Donor-Acceptor (DA) interactions are presented to underscore the importance of Lewis acidity from weak intermolecular interactions to strong DA complexes. Recent advances in the synthesis and characterization of novel Lewis acids and Lewis superacids of group 2, 13, 14, and 15 elements are discussed.

Summary: Methylaluminoxane (MAO) activators have sheet structures that form ion-pairs during hydrolysis, as demonstrated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Density functional theory and numerical simulation indicate rapid formation of low MW oligomers, followed by assembly into low MW sheets during this process. The study predicts that even-numbered sheets should be favored, which is confirmed by ESI-MS monitoring experiments of activator growth and MAO aging.

Summary: Identification of metal complexes in wine samples is a challenging task due to the complexity of the wine matrix with numerous organic compounds, low concentrations of metals and potential interferences during the analytical process. ESI-MS coupled with separation techniques like liquid chromatography is currently the most promising technique for metal complex identification.

Summary: Experimental evidence showed that the silver cation Ag+ forms a cationic complex [Ag(C20H10)(2)](+) with corannulene, and the most probable structure of the complex was derived using DFT calculations. The central cation Ag+ is positioned between two molecules of the corannulene ligand in the resulting complex, with an interaction energy, E(int), of -335.0 to -306.9 kJ/mol.

Summary: The structure of coal tar asphaltenes is a challenging topic in coal chemistry. This study developed a stepwise extraction method to analyze the polar molecules and structure information using mass spectrometry. The results showed that the polarity of the molecules increased with solvent polarity, and oxygen played a crucial role in the adsorption and desorption of asphaltenes.

Summary: Cationic zinc Lewis acids catalyze the C-H borylation of heteroarenes using borane compounds. An electrophile derived from IDippZnEt combined with DMT is shown to be highly effective, particularly for weakly activated heteroarenes. The reaction proceeds by activation of the hydroborane rather than the heteroarene, providing a new pathway to access reactive borenium-type electrophiles for C-H borylation.
