Summary: The study showed a decrease in the number of gastroscopies and an increase in colonoscopies in patients with heart failure. Older patients undergoing colonoscopy might have higher in-hospital mortality, while gastroscopy was associated with lower mortality.

Summary: This passage discusses the similarities between the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, which both consist of hollow structures that rely on muscle contractions to facilitate the flow of materials. It describes the anatomy, pathologies, and treatments of these organs, with a particular emphasis on tissue engineering strategies.

Summary: In patients with acute congestive heart failure, urinary catheterisation during inpatient diuretic therapy does not provide clinical benefits in terms of weight loss and increases the risk of urinary tract infection. Therefore, the systematic use of urinary catheterisation during diuretic therapy for heart failure is not recommended.

Summary: More than half of the patients who successfully resuscitated from cardiac arrest experienced upper gastrointestinal ischemic injury. The amount of adrenaline used during resuscitation was independently associated with the occurrence of ischemic lesions. Patients with severe lesions had higher organ failure scores during the ICU stay and worse prognosis.

Summary: This study reports the fabrication of collagen tubes with designed shapes using lipid bilayer supported droplet networks, which can produce a variety of tubular GI tissues including human intestinal organoids and fibroblast-containing structures. The versatility of this technique allows the construction of tubular GI tracts containing ECM and layered structures, with broad potential applications in disease research and regenerative medicine.

Summary: This review discusses the importance of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in organoid culture systems, especially in the context of intestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic organoids, and how biomaterial-based approaches can be used to investigate ECM properties for more physiologically and translationally relevant organoid models.

Summary: Due to modern medical advancements, more people are living longer lives. However, this increased lifespan does not always correspond to improved health, and can lead to a rise in aging-related diseases. These diseases are often attributed to cellular senescence, which creates a proinflammatory environment suitable for tumor progression. This review focuses on the effects of cellular senescence on gastrointestinal aging, inflammation, and cancers, aiming to enhance our understanding of these processes for future therapies.

Summary: This study found that heart failure was common in children with lower respiratory tract infections, and the modified Ross score could effectively predict the severity of heart failure in these children. Patients admitted to NICU, with a history of previous ventilation, and premature births were more likely to develop heart failure.

Summary: The 21st century has brought about a revolution in the management of congestive heart failure through the use of left ventricular assist devices and other treatment modalities. However, these novel devices also come with side effects, one of which is an increased frequency of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Various factors, including decreased von Willebrand factor polymers and increased arteriovenous malformations, contribute to this occurrence. Multiple treatment options have been identified to prevent and manage gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with left ventricular assist devices. This systematic review provides a comprehensive summary of the incidence, pathophysiology, and management of lower gastrointestinal bleeding in this population.

Summary: Neuroendocrine tumours of the gastrointestinal and reproductive tracts are rare and have a poor prognosis. Surgical resection is the main treatment, but non-surgical treatments are also used. This article focuses on identifying risk factors, including genetic mutations, and comparing the effectiveness of different non-surgical treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, somatostatin analogues, and immunotherapy.

Summary: In a post hoc analysis of the SONAR trial, Atrasentan consistently reduced the relative risk of primary kidney outcomes, with the greatest absolute risk reduction seen in patients with the lowest eGFR and highest albuminuria. However, the relative and absolute risks of heart failure hospitalization were similar across different baseline eGFR and UACR subgroups.

Summary: While the formation of a biomolecular corona on particles in plasma is well understood, little is known about the formation and composition of the corona on particles within the gastrointestinal tract. This review aims to establish the significance of the formation of a gastrointestinal corona in oral drug delivery and provide new avenues for controlling the behavior of orally administered pharmaceuticals.

Summary: The timing of endoscopy in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding has been a controversial topic for decades. Early endoscopy in high-risk patients can improve outcomes, while most patients with GIB do not require endoscopy within 24 hours.
