Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety ofGinkgo bilobapreparation for the treatment of Alzheimer disease (AD). Methods Both English (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library databases, and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register) and Chinese (WanFang, Chinese Biomedical, CNKI, and VIP databases) databases were systematically and independently searched by 2 authors from their inception until July 3, 2019. All relevant studies included AD patients who were treated withGinkgo biloba. The efficacy and safety of the medicine were used as the main measurement index. Results Seven studies (N = 939) were identified and analyzed. When compared with placebo,Ginkgo bilobashowed exact validity in cognitive function and global clinical assessment (cognitive function section: risk ratio = 1.98, 95% confidence interval = 1.52-2.59,Z= 5.12,P< 0.001; according to Clinical Global Impression Change: odds ratio = 3.119, 95% confidence interval = 2.206-4.410,Z= 6.44,P< 0.001). Adverse events were mild. Conclusions Ginkgo bilobapreparation has reliable efficacy of cognitive function and global clinical assessment and safety in the treatment of AD.

Life-cycle cost analysis of rehabilitation strategies for asphalt pavements based on probabilistic models

Miaomiao Zhang, Hongren Gong, Rui Xiao, Xi Jiang, Yuetan Ma, Baoshan Huang

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of different overlay strategies using life-cycle cost analysis and probabilistic pavement performance models based on survival analysis. The results showed that there was a significant difference in survival probabilities between thin and thick overlays, while the overlay material type or milling had no significant impact on pavement service life. Thin overlays were more cost-effective in terms of life-cycle cost when traffic was not considered, while thick overlays were more cost-effective for pavements in wet areas with high traffic volumes.

Expansion of the response range of photoelectrochemical UV detector using an ITO/Ag-nanowire/quartz UV-visible transparent conductive electrode

Youqing Wang, Baoping Li, Peiling Ren, Menghan Liu, Zilin Gong, Miaomiao Zhang, Hao Zhao, Yu Zhang, Yanqing Zhang, Jianke Liu

Summary: An Ag nanowire network was prepared by electrospinning and magnetron sputtering, and transferred to a quartz substrate to obtain a UV-visible TCE with high transmittance. The addition of an ITO functional layer further improved electron conductivity and inhibited electronic recombination. The PEC UV detector based on this new electrode system showed excellent self-powered response performance and an extended response range.

The relationships of CD8+T cell subsets in RA patients with disease activity and clinical parameters

Juan He, Yu Li, Jian Chen, Qi Wu, Hongying Shan, Xiaocheng Wang, Miaomiao Zhang, Liping Nie, Qingwen Wang

Summary: Different subsets of CD8+ T cells are associated with clinical features and serological parameters in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Naive CD8+ T cells are negatively correlated with disease activity, while CD8+ CD28-T cells and CD8+ CD27-T cells are positively correlated with disease activity. Activated CD8+ T cells and TCR gamma E+ CD8+ T cells may be involved in inflammation and lipid metabolism in RA.

The effect of the seasonality of moisture sources on moisture flux and precipitation stable isotopes in the Shiyang River Basin

Summary: This study analyzes the stable isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen in the Shiyang River Basin to investigate the moisture sources and transport processes in this arid area. The results show that westerly winds and monsoons play important roles in moisture flux, and there is spatial variation in the isotopic values of precipitation. Precipitation from maritime sources is depleted in oxygen-18 compared to continental sources, while enrichment of oxygen-18 is associated with continental sources affected by evapotranspiration and secondary evaporation.

Summary: This study establishes a predictive model for post-treatment pavement roughness using data from the LTPP program. A nomogram is provided to help highway agencies obtain predicted post-treatment roughness values. Results show that post-treatment roughness is significantly higher in dry and non-freeze areas, and the effect of pavement structure is time-dependent.
