In spite of great developments in the agricultural field and plant productivity in the last decades, the concern about the control of agricultural pests is still continuous. However, pest management is expected to have more effects from nanomaterials by providing innovative solutions. The current study confirms the biotransformation of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) using a cell-free culture extract of metal copper-resistant bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens MAL2, which was isolated from heavy metal-contaminated soils collected from Sharqia Governorate, Egypt. The local screened bacterial isolate, Pseudomonas fluorescens MAL2, is similar to Pseudomonas fluorescens DSM 12442T DSM. After optimization of growth conditions, F-Base medium was found to be the best medium and pH 7, temperature 35 degrees C, concentration of CuSO(4)5H(2)O 300 ppm, 10 mL supernatant: 40 mL CuSO(4)5H(2)O (300 ppm), and reaction time 90 min were recorded as the best growth conditions to the fabrication of CuNPs. The formed CuNPs were characterized using initially visual observation of the change in the color of the reaction mixture from blue color to the dark green as an indication of CuNPs biotransformation. Then, UV-Vis spectroscopy showed a maximum absorption at 610 nm under the optimum conditions performed. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) revealed the formation of spherical aspect with size ranges from 10:70 nm; moreover, Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) indicated the presence of CuNPs and other elements. In addition, the presence of alcohols, phenols, alkenes, and amines is confirmed by Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis. Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) supported that the Zeta-average size of nanoparticle was 48.07 with 0.227 PdI value. The Zeta potential showed -26.00mV with a single peak. The biosynthesized CuNPs (Bio CuNPs) showed toxicity against the stored grain pest (Tribolium castaneum), where LC50 value was 37 ppm after 5 days of treatment. However, the negligible effect was observed with chemical synthesis of CuNPs (Ch CuNPs) at the same concentration. The results suggest that Bio CuNPs could be used not only as a biocontrol agent, but also as an ecofriendly and inexpensive approach for controlling the stored grain pests.

Nahed Yehia, Heba M. Salem, Yasser Mahmmod, Dalia Said, Mahmoud Samir, Sara Abdel Mawgod, Hend K. Sorour, Mona A. A. AbdelRahman, Samy Selim, Ahmed M. Saad, Mohamed T. El-Saadony, Rasha M. El-Meihy, Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack, Khaled A. El-Tarabily, Ali M. Zanaty

Summary: Many pathogens commonly infect birds through the respiratory tract, leading to respiratory disorders and significant financial losses in the poultry industry. Viral pathogens, such as avian influenza virus, Newcastle disease virus, infectious bronchitis virus, and avian pneumovirus, are particularly severe. Bacterial pathogens, including Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Staphylococcus, Bordetella avium, Pasteurella multocida, Riemerella anatipestifer, Chlamydophila psittaci, and Escherichia coli, also cause serious respiratory infections in poultry. This review provides an updated summary of the evidence for widespread poultry respiratory pathogens, along with possible control and prevention methods.

The use of silkworm pupae (Bombyx mori) meal as an alternative protein source for poultry

Mohammad T. T. Banday, Sheikh Adil, Islam U. U. Sheikh, Henna Hamadani, Farhat I. I. Qadri, Manal E. E. Sahfi, Habiba S. A. W. Sait, Taia A. A. Abd El-Mageed, Heba M. M. Salem, Ayman E. E. Taha, Mohamed T. T. El-Saadony, Mohamed E. E. Abd El-Hack

Summary: Feed accounts for the majority of poultry farming costs, with animal protein being the most expensive component. Fishmeal, the traditional animal protein source in poultry feed, is costly and reduces profit. Silkworm pupae, with their high nutritional content and suitable amino acid profile, have potential as an alternative protein source.

Degradation of Bisphonel AF (BPAF) by zero-valent iron activated persulfate: Kinetics, mechanisms, theoretical calculations, and effect of co-existing chloride

Cheng Qin, Yumeng Qi, Xiaolei Teng, Jamaan S. Ajarem, Ahmed A. Allam, Ruijuan Qu

Summary: The effectiveness of the zero-valent iron activated persulfate (Fe0/PS) system in removing Bisphonel AF (BPAF) was systematically evaluated in this study. The optimal conditions for the removal of 30.0 mu M BPAF were at pH = 3.0 and [PS] = [Fe0] = 3.0 mM, resulting in a 94.4% removal rate within 60 minutes. The presence of Cl- accelerated the removal of BPAF due to the release of Fe2+ and the formation of reactive chlorine species (RCS). Thirteen degradation products were identified, and various transformation pathways were considered. When Cl- was present, six new chlorinated byproducts were also generated.

Synthesis and characterization of cellulose functionalized zeolitic diatomite as an enhanced carrier of oxaliplatin drug; loading, release, and cytotoxicity

Haifa E. Alfassam, Menna-Tullah Ashraf, Sarah I. Al Othman, Maha A. Al-Waili, Ahmed A. Allam, Mostafa R. Abukhadra

Summary: Natural diatomite frustules were used to obtain zeolitized diatomite and cellulose fibrous/zeolitized diatomite composite, which exhibited enhanced encapsulation capacities for the oxaliplatin drug. The encapsulation reactions followed pseudo-first order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm. The CF/ZD composite had a notably higher effective encapsulation site density than ZD and D, and each effective site could accommodate up to 3 molecules of OXPL in vertical forms. The release profiles showed slow and controlled release properties, and the cytotoxic effects on HCT-116 cancer cell lines were enhanced.

Mohamed Adel Sayed, Jamaan S. Ajarem, Ahmed A. Allam, Mostafa R. Abukhadra, Jianmin Luo, Chuanyi Wang, Stefano Bellucci

Summary: The mineral raw Egyptian kaolinite was used as a precursor to synthesize two sodalite phases (Na.SD and K.SD) through low alkali fusion technique. Na.SD phase exhibited higher basicity, surface area, and ion exchange capacity compared to K.SD phase. Catalytic performance of Na.SD was superior to K.SD in biodiesel production, demonstrating higher yields and faster reaction rates.

Insight into the Potential Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Activities of Scrolled Kaolinite Single Sheet (KNs) and Its Composite with ZnO Nanoparticles: Synergetic Studies

Hassan Ahmed Rudayni, Malak Aladwani, Lina M. Alneghery, Ahmed A. Allam, Mostafa R. Abukhadra, Stefano Bellucci

Summary: The kaolinite sheets were delaminated into nanotubes (KNs) through sonication-induced chemical processes. These KNs were used as substrates for ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO/KNs) synthesized through microwave-based techniques. Compared to separate ZnO and KNs phases, as well as commercially used ZnO, the ZnO/KNs structure exhibited enhanced antioxidant and antidiabetic properties due to the positive influence of KNs on surface area, interfaces, charge separation, and agglomeration properties. It demonstrated remarkable scavenging efficiencies for various radicals and strong inhibition effects on enzymes related to diabetes. The antidiabetic activity of ZnO/KNs was comparable to or slightly higher than acarbose, making it a recommended alternative to commercially used drugs.
