Summary: The independent panel has conducted a retrospective analysis of events, actions, and recommendations during the outbreak from late 2019 to early 2020, revealing both rapid responses and areas where improvements could have been made. Furthermore, countries with previous experience in handling similar outbreaks were more successful in containing the virus at the initial stage.

Summary: South Asia had low pandemic preparedness, but responded effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic with lower death rates despite surges in cases. The pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in the health system and the high burden of non-communicable diseases in the region complicates combating present and future health crises. The region's advantage of a younger population demographic may not be sustained due to rising non-communicable disease burden and lack of prioritization in improving health systems.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the incidence and predictors of weight gain during the COVID-19 quarantine period. A survey was conducted five months after the implementation of social distancing measures. The results showed that a majority of participants had gained weight during the pandemic, and the predictors of weight gain included increased food intake, snacking, fast food consumption, decreased physical activity, and changes in eating behavior. The findings highlight the importance of implementing measures during future quarantine periods to prevent weight gain.

Summary: Two years after the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, over six million deaths have occurred due to SARS-CoV-2, causing unprecedented disruption to the global economy. Various vaccines have been developed within a year to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, but availability and distribution remain an issue. New strains of the virus have raised questions about vaccine effectiveness, and the equitable distribution of vaccines remains a challenge. Plant virus-based vaccines are recognized as a potential solution to supply shortages and offer convenience in distribution. This review discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different types of vaccines and provides an update on the current status of plant-based vaccines in the fight against COVID-19.

Summary: Obesity is associated with increased risk and worse outcomes in COVID-19 patients, leading to higher hospitalization rates and greater need for mechanical ventilation. Metabolic issues and immune system impairment in obesity may result in greater susceptibility to infections, longer viral shedding, and longer duration and severity of illness. Lifestyle modifications are crucial in reducing the risk and improving prognosis of COVID-19 in obese individuals.

Summary: In this study, a novel improvement on ladder line structure called longitudinally slotted structure is proposed, which increases the cross-sectional area of the electron beam and effective interaction area, thereby significantly improving the output power. The dispersion characteristics and field distribution of the slotted structure are analyzed through numerical and simulation calculations, and the optimal parameters are determined. A 94-GHz 2-D slotted structure EIO is designed and compared with the ladder line, it shows a 52.5% increase in cavity characteristic impedance $\textit{R}$ / $\textit{Q}$ and a 21.1% increase in output power. This new structure is expected to provide a new idea for power enhancement in millimeter-wave and terahertz EIOs.

Summary: A physics-based compact model, including quantum correction and other physical effects, was developed for 2-D MBC FETs fabricated in experiments. The model considered the wave functions in the 2-D channel, taking into account quantum mechanical confinement and deducing the quantum corrected potential using perturbation approach. It accurately captured the carrier density distribution across the channel, which was verified by first principle calculations. Furthermore, I-V and C-V models were created and implemented in Verilog-A, showing good agreement with experimental data.

Summary: A novel method for extracting and amplifying the third harmonic of an electron beam to generate high-power terahertz radiation is presented. This approach utilizes three planar grating structures operating in the backwave region to extract and amplify the electron beam from the fundamental modulation, resulting in an amplified output of the fundamental wave and a high power output of the fundamental triplet frequency. The planar grating structure is easier to machine and assemble compared to conventional harmonic amplifiers and allows for increased electron beam flow rate.

Summary: An ultra-dense one-transistor (1T) ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) array is reported, based on high-performance, non-volatile, and ambipolar ferroelectric (Fe) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) fin field-effect transistors (FinFETs). TCAM functions were realized on a single device due to the multistates in the Fe layer and ambipolar characteristics. This has potential for Hamming-distance computing in area-and energy-efficient artificial intelligence (AI) processors.

Summary: A frequency-tunable gyrotron with multi-band radiation has been designed, manufactured, and experimentally investigated. The frequency tuning scheme employing transverse modes switching and axial mode transition is used to achieve multiband radiation. Three modes TE02, TE43, and TE24 are excited successively with the increase of the magnetic field, and their main operating frequencies are 140, 250, and 263 GHz, respectively. Experimental results show that a certain frequency-tuning range can be obtained at each frequency band by exciting a series of high-order axial modes.

Summary: A novel high-frequency structure was proposed, which involved vertically placing four conventional ladder-line slow wave structures to form a four-sheet-beam orthogonal interconnection structure. The simulation results showed the achievement of an output power of over 500 W for a 0.22-THz wave with four sheet beams at 16.6 kV and each current of 0.8 A. This structure provides an alternative for the development of terahertz EIOs.

Summary: This research investigates the effects of copper (Cu) donor material assisted friction stir welding (FSW) on AA2024-T4 and AA6061-T6 plates of 6.35 mm thickness. By introducing Cu donor material, the downward force generated during FSW process is gradually decreased, and the temperature at the beginning of welding process is increased. Defect-free joints with improved tensile strength can be obtained by placing high strength AA2024 alloy at the advancing side of the weld with 25% thick donor material. SEM Fractography images confirm mixed modes of brittle and ductile fracture surfaces after the inclusion of donor material in FSW.
