Many scholars have worked to solve the widespread problems associated with air pollution especially in developing countries. So, there is a huge bulk of research output in this field that should be classified to determine the next steps and finding out research gaps. Hence, in this study, the scientometric approach was performed by CiteSpace V to draw the trends and signify issues in the research area. Based on the search in ISI Web of Science database, 25,363 documents were retrieved for air pollution in developing countries. The documents were analyzed for co-authorship, countries collaboration, ISI Web of Science categories co-occurrence, keyword co-occurrence, and institutional collaboration. The data showed the published studies had an upward trend over the years. By considering the number of citations, China plays an important role in air pollution research in developing countries, and the USA is the top country with the potential to change the structure of the network. Along with the developing countries, developed countries have also played a serious role in advancing research in this field. The trend of the studies has shown that research trends in early years tend to pure environmental studies, and in recent years, it has shifted to areas like monitoring, management, and biodiversity conservation. Keyword co-occurrence showed sulfur dioxide with a duration of 22 years is one of the most important issues in studies of air pollution in developing countries. Among the institutes, the University of Sao Paulo and Harvard University have made greater efforts to investigate air pollution in developing countries. Nanjing University of Information Science& Technology had the highest frequency in a short period. Overall, this work provides a quantitative, visual, and large-scale review of the majority of publications on 'air pollution in developing countries' that may be important to researchers, practitioners, sponsors, and any individual/ institution concerned about air pollution.

Development of new magnetic adsorbent of walnut shell ash/starch/Fe3O4 for effective copper ions removal: Treatment of groundwater samples

Rauf Foroutan, Seyed Jamaleddin Peighambardoust, Reza Mohammadi, Seyed Hadi Peighambardoust, Bahman Ramavandi

Summary: The aim of this study was to develop a new magnetic nanocomposite for removing Cu (II) from groundwater using walnut shell ash (WSA)/starch/Fe3O4. The nanocomposite was successfully synthesized and showed a high specific active surface area. The Cu adsorption followed the Freundlich and Langmuir models, and the process was spontaneous and exothermic. Kinetic adsorption data fitted the pseudo-second order model.

Study of microplastics pollution in sediments and organisms in mangrove forests: A review

Zeinab Maghsodian, Ali Mohammad Sanati, Saeed Tahmasebi, Malek Hossein Shahriari, Bahman Ramavandi

Summary: Microplastics are a emerging pollutant that can enter marine environments like mangrove forests and interfere with the health of the environment and organisms. The concentration of microplastics in sediments is high and fiber and bright color microplastic particles are more common. In addition, mangrove forests exposed to fishing, coastal tourism, urban, and industrial wastewater have higher concentrations of microplastics.

Application of pier waste sludge for catalytic activation of proxy-monosulfate and phenol elimination from a petrochemical wastewater

Feyzollah Khoshtinat, Tayebeh Tabatabaie, Bahman Ramavandi, Seyedenayat Hashemi

Summary: This study aimed to remove phenol from petrochemical wastewater using the catalyst extracted from pier waste sludge to activate peroxy-monosulfate (PMS). The physical and chemical properties of the catalyst were evaluated, and various operational parameters were tested to optimize phenol removal. The results showed that the catalyst had multiple functional groups on its surface, and the pH factor had a significant impact on the removal efficiency. However, the stability of the catalyst decreased after five cycles.

Application of walnut shell ash/ZnO/K2CO3 as a new composite catalyst for biodiesel generation from Moringa oleifera oil

Rauf Foroutan, Seyed Jamaleddin Peighambardoust, Reza Mohammadi, Seyed Hadi Peighambardoust, Bahman Ramavandi

Summary: A novel heterogeneous catalyst based on walnut shell ash (WSA)/ZnO/K2CO3 composite was synthesized and successfully applied for the production of biodiesel via the transesterification process. The effect of independent variables including temperature, time, methanol to oil ratio, and catalyst concentration on the process efficiency was investigated using the response surface method-central composite design. The results confirmed the activity potential of the catalyst and the suitability of the produced biodiesel as a substitute for diesel-derived fuels.
