Summary: Imported malaria cases in Anhui Province, China, have shown an unexpected increase in P. ovale spp. infections from 2012 to 2019. Co-infection with other Plasmodium species, misdiagnosis, and challenges in species identification have been noted, indicating the need for more sensitive detection methods for P. ovale spp. in both endemic and non-endemic areas for effective malaria control.

Summary: This study analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of human rabies in Shandong Province from 2010 to 2020. The results showed that dogs were still the primary animal hosts, and most rabies patients died due to no or inadequate post-exposure prophylaxis. The study suggests that the vaccination rate for dogs should be increased, and accessibility and quality of post-exposure prophylaxis should be improved. Additionally, health literacy of the elderly in rural areas should be enhanced.

Summary: During surveillance in China, 11 H9N2 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) were isolated from chickens in Shandong Province. The isolates showed close genetic relationship with several sublineages of Eurasian lineage and had mutation sites associated with human receptor binding, mammalian fitness, antigenic variation, and drug resistance. Studies with mice revealed varying levels of pathogenicity among the isolates. The average antibody titer of the H9N2 AIVs was 8.60 log2. Epidemiological surveillance of H9N2 AIVs is crucial based on these findings.

Summary: This study analyzed the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of measles in Jinan, Shandong, China over a 32-year period. The study found that there were differences in the distribution of measles cases among different years, months, and age groups. The number and percentage of cases in the 0-1 year age group were significantly higher, and 97.75% of patients in this group did not receive measles vaccine. The study also found that complications such as pneumonia and myocarditis were more common in patients under 12 years old, while liver function damage was more common in adult patients.

Summary: Human norovirus is the leading cause of non-bacterial gastroenteritis worldwide and oysters are known vehicles for its transmission. A year-long monitoring program in two shellfish harvesting areas in Shandong province, China, revealed 16.9% of oyster samples tested positive for HuNoV. The majority of positive samples were collected in winter months, with no significant correlation found between viral detection and seawater pH or fecal coliform levels.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance characteristics of Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis) in conventional broiler-fattening farms in Shandong Province, China. The results showed that the P. mirabilis strains isolated from these farms displayed a high level of antimicrobial resistance and carried multiple drug-resistance genes. The study suggested that P. mirabilis strains in Shandong may pose a potential risk to humans.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the presence and genetic characteristics of APPV in abortion cases in Shandong Province, China. Viral coexistence was observed with other viruses, and the first complete genome sequence of APPV in this region was obtained. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of the molecular and epidemiological aspects of APPV in China.
