Summary: Academic institutions play a key role in the biotech industry through technology licensing and startup creation. A systematic study of technology licensing by MIT shows significant impact in the biopharmaceutical field, including MIT patents cited in the Orange Book, capital raised, patents granted, drug candidates discovered, and US drug approvals. This methodology may be helpful for other academic institutions to track outcomes of intellectual property in the therapeutics domain.

Summary: Understanding the health effects of exposures with a lag between exposure and disease onset is crucial in environmental health research. The SRP program, funded by NIEHS, uses a multidisciplinary approach to support biomedical and environmental science research. SRP-funded scientists are studying early-life exposures and their connection to later diseases, developing tools to predict long-term health effects. This research is important for prevention and intervention strategies to reduce disease burden.

Summary: China's economic growth is shifting from traditional to innovation-driven. Knowledge transfer in industry-university-research-institute collaboration plays a crucial role in improving independent innovation and sustainable competitiveness. This study explores the obstacles to knowledge transfer in such collaboration and investigates the impact of contractual governance and relationship governance mechanisms. The findings suggest that different types of governance mechanisms have varying effects on knowledge transfer, and the joint use of the contractual coordination mechanism and relationship governance mechanism enhances knowledge transfer.

Summary: The United Nations recognizes the importance of free school meals, but they have been widely disrupted by COVID-19. This study investigates caregiver perceptions and responses to interruptions in the universal infant free school meal program in Cambridgeshire, England. The results show that 21% of respondents' schools did not provide the program after lockdown, or advised caregivers to prepare packed lunches. Caregivers reported a decline in the quality and variety of meals when they were provided, leading to a decrease in uptake. The study suggests that policymakers, local governments, and schools should take action to address the use of ultra-processed foods in packed lunches and improve the perceived quality of meals provided at schools.
