Nonconventional luminogens without conjugated chromophores have attracted much interest for their intriguing fluorescence and potential wide applications. Their emission mechanism, however, remains an open question. Herein, hyperbranched poly(amino ester) (HPAE) with novel structure is synthesized through a simple one-pot polycondensation reaction. The HPAE exhibits strong fluorescence and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristic. Transmission electron microscopy and theoretical calculation results demonstrate that the fluorescence is attributed from electron delocalization in the supramolecular self-assemblies of HPAE. Meanwhile, supramolecular self-assemblies, induced by the synergy effect of inter/intramolecular hydrogen bond and amphipathicity of HPAE, rigidify the molecule conformation, leading to enhanced fluorescence. Furthermore, the HPAE exhibits single-color emission due to its generation of homogeneous electron delocalization. Interestingly, such HPAE shows multi-stimuli-responsive fluorescence to solvent, temperature, pH, and Fe3+. Therefore, this work not only provides an important step forward in exploring the emission mechanism of nonconventional luminogens, but also develops a multi-functional unconjugated AIE probe.

OPTIMAL PROPORTIONAL REINSURANCE AND PAIRS TRADING UNDER EXPONENTIAL UTILITY CRITERION FOR THE INSURER

Pengxu Xie, Lihua Bai, Huayue Zhang

Summary: This paper investigates the optimal proportional reinsurance and investment strategy for an insurer who invests one paired assets with price spread described by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (O-U) processes. The insurer aims to maximize the expected exponential utility of the terminal wealth in a finite time horizon under two risk models: a classical risk model and a diffusion model. By employing the classical stochastic control approach based on the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, the optimal strategies are characterized and a verification result for the value function is provided through the exponential integrability of the square of an O-U process. Numerical examples are presented for sensitivity analysis.

Metal-nitride dual-anode AlGaN/GaN heterostructure Schottky barrier diodes with tunable turn-on voltage and reverse leakage current

Ting-Ting Wang, Xiao Wang, Zhen-Hai Cui, Wen Hong, Yang Li, Liu-An Li, Yue He, Mao Jia, Chen Guo, Li-Hua Bai, Ying-Zhao Geng, Yue Hao, Jin-Ping Ao

Summary: This study investigates AlGaN/GaN heterostructure lateral Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) with TiN and NiN dual anode on sapphire substrates. The results show that the turn-on voltage and leakage current of the DA SBDs can be adjusted by varying the radius of the TiN anode. Additionally, it is found that the NiN anode with its high work-function leads to low leakage current and high breakdown voltage, while the TiN anode with its low work-function determines the low turn-on voltage of the DA SBDs.

High-efficiency square-hole single-mode waveguide photon sieves for THz waves

Changjie Cheng, Qing Cao, Lihua Bai, Chaoyue LI, Jirui Zhu, Wenxuan Chen, Yaxing Mao

Summary: To overcome the low diffraction efficiency and scattering caused by dispersion from different waveguide modes, a new kind of photon sieve working in the terahertz band is proposed. The effective index of a metal square-hole waveguide is determined by the side length of the pinhole, allowing for adjustment of the optical path difference. Simulation results demonstrate a significant increase in intensity compared to the traditional single-mode waveguide photon sieve.

Photoaging of Typical Microplastics as Affected by Air Humidity: Mechanistic Insights into the Important Role of Water Molecules

Chao Wang, Sijia Liang, Lihua Bai, Xinyue Gu, Xin Jin, Yong Sik Ok, Cheng Gu

Summary: Recent studies have found that land serves as the most important sink for microplastics (MPs), but little is known about the photoaging processes of land surface MPs exposed to air. This study developed two spectroscopic methods to investigate the effect of air humidity on MP photoaging. The results showed that humidity significantly influenced the surface oxygen-containing moieties of MPs generated from photo-oxidation, especially for PVC-MPs. The study also revealed the RH dependence of coexisting contaminants' adsorption on photoaged MPs, which could be attributed to the varied hydrogen bonding between the contaminants and aged MP surfaces.

Yue He, Ke-Yue Chen, Ting-Ting Wang, Mao Jia, Li-Hua Bai, Xiao Wang, Yu-Yu Bu, Jin-Ping Ao

Summary: In this article, a biosensor based on AlGaN/GaN HFETs is developed to directly detect the tumor biomarker miRNA-155. By fixing the specific SH-RNA probe on the Au-gate surface of the AlGaN/GaN HFET, an RNA-Au-AlGaN/GaN HFET biosensor is fabricated, which can conveniently and rapidly detect miRNA155. The experimental results show that this biosensor has an excellent detection limit of 1.81 fM and a high sensitivity of 77 mu A/log concentration with a linear range (2 fM-2 nM). The biosensor exhibits a high specific recognition capacity but is weakly sensitive to mismatched miRNA.

Nonsequential Double Ionization of Molecules in Counter-Rotating TwoColor Circularly Polarized Laser Fields

Guo Zhen, Bai Lihua, Liu Keying, Shen Yanwen

Summary: Nonsequential double ionization (NSDI) of N2 molecules in counter-rotating two-color circularly polarized few-cycle laser fields is investigated using the classical ensemble method. The results show that the yield of NSDI decreases significantly with the increasing laser wavelength, which is caused by the diffusion effects of electron wave packets. It is also found that the ionization mechanism of NSDI is affected by the laser wavelength. Collision excitation ionization becomes increasingly dominant with the rising laser wavelength, which is related to the return trajectory and return energy of the first electron. The electron momentum distribution of NSDI is also discussed in this study, revealing that the longer laser wavelength leads to clearer rotating three-lobed fan-like structures.
