Summary: The study assessed the survival and growth of sea cucumber Holothuria poli in a commercial fish farm in Malta as part of an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture system. Higher survival rates and better growth were observed in environments further away from the fish farm, while sediments near the commercial fish cage provided an enriched food source for significant growth in H. poli. Implementation of IMTA with sea cucumbers may have the potential to uptake organic farm waste and increase aquaculture production, with important considerations needed for setup design and stocking density.

Summary: The growth of environmental burdens and concerns has prompted the adoption of sustainable manufacturing to minimize resource depletion, global warming, and waste disposal. Additive manufacturing (AM) has become popular due to its wide range of applications and benefits. AM is efficient in producing customized and sophisticated products while also improving energy consumption, production costs, and production lead times. Additionally, it is environmentally sustainable, producing less waste and CO2 emissions, and enhancing the circular economy. Further research is needed to understand the long-term effects of AM on the environment.

Summary: The paper discusses the concept of Smart and Sustainable Circular Economy (SSCE) and identifies barriers in technology, producers, consumers, and policy aspects. Principal results show that challenges such as ownership issues, lack of governmental support, administrative burden, and ineffective execution of environmental regulations are fundamental barriers to SSCE. Additionally, lack of integration and collaboration among supply chain partners, ineffective adoption of CE frameworks, and product complexity are identified as effect barriers that are easily influenced by other factors and have short-term implications.

Summary: There is a consensus in the industry on the need for a more ecological and ethical approach to business. However, there is still a lack of a proper performance measurement system for the ecological and ethical transition. This study develops a novel integrated framework that can measure performance and integrate different paradigms, applicable at different levels and adaptable to firms with different characteristics. The framework has been validated in manufacturing firms and found to overcome tensions among paradigms, encourage firms to consider performance beyond their boundaries, and be scalable.
