Summary: In this study, a model of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) was established in mice using kainic acid (KA), and melatonin (MEL) was used for treatment. The results showed that MEL reduced the frequency and severity of seizures, improved cognition, learning, and memory ability, and significantly reduced neuronal death in the hippocampus. In vitro experiments showed that MEL changed the polarization status of microglia from a proinflammatory M1 phenotype to an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype by regulating the RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway.

Summary: We conducted untargeted metabolomics analysis to study the metabolic alterations in a CNV rat model. The results showed specific metabolic patterns in different ocular tissues and potential substance exchange between tissues. Dysregulated metabolomic profiles in differential tissues may be related to oxidative stress response, resulting in RPE cell degeneration and CNV development.

Summary: Non-exudative macular and choroidal neovascularization (MNV and CNV) refers to treatment-naive type 1 neovascularization without exudation. This entity was first reported in the late 90s and has been increasingly recognized with advanced retinal imaging. However, there is a lack of consensus regarding the definition and clinical management. This review discusses the prevalence, imaging features, clinical course, and response to treatment of non-exudative MNV and CNV, providing key insights and proposing a new theory about their origin and course.

Summary: This paper investigates the potential of using S1PR agonists to inhibit choroidal neovascularization. Through in vitro and in vivo experiments, it is confirmed that S1PR1 is the most abundantly expressed receptor in choroidal endothelial cells and S1PR agonists can significantly suppress choroidal neovascularization. These findings suggest a potential new application for S1PR agonists in the treatment of nAMD and other inflammation-related diseases.

Summary: The study found that during the development of CNV, there is a significant increase in choroidal thickness in the corresponding subfield. Additionally, three months before the development of CNV, the choroidal thickness in the central subfield also significantly increases. Regular measurement of choroidal thickness may help in predicting CNV development.

Summary: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of irreversible central vision loss in the elderly and is associated with abnormal blood vessel growth. This study explored the relationship between the protease Granzyme B (GzmB) and the antiangiogenic factors Thrombospondin (TSP)-1 and TSP-2 in eyes with neovascular AMD. The study found that TSP-1 and TSP-2 are substrates of GzmB and that the proteolysis of these factors by GzmB may contribute to neovascular AMD-related choroidal neovascularization (CNV).

Summary: The study revealed that the p300/XBP1s/Herpud1 axis promotes M2 polarization of macrophages and inhibits proliferation, migration, and tube formation of MCECs. Additionally, this axis increases in infiltrating M2-type macrophages in mouse CNV lesions induced by laser. Blocking the p300/XBP1s/Herpud1 axis can inhibit macrophage M2 polarization and alleviate CNV lesions.

Summary: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of irreversible blindness in the elderly, especially its neovascular form characterized by choroidal neovascularization (CNV). This study explored the role of circular RNA Uxs1 in CNV regulation and found it to be consistently upregulated in CNV patient specimens and mouse models. CirRNA Uxs1 promotes CNV by sponging miR-335-5p, which leads to the upregulation of placental growth factor (PGF) gene and activation of the mTOR/p70 S6k pathway. These findings suggest that circRNA Uxs1 may serve as a potential therapeutic target for CNV.

Summary: This study aimed to report the 6-year incidence, causes, and risk factors for vision loss (visual impairment and blindness) among elderly adults in rural southern China. The study found that cataract and refractive errors were the most common causes of vision loss. Older age, female sex, lower education, living alone, and longer axial length were significantly associated with greater incident vision loss.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the impact of +1q on the outcomes of 934 newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients. The results showed that +1q was associated with inferior overall survival, and the concomitance of other high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities further exacerbated the outcomes. Summary: ICGA can be used to evaluate the differences in filling degree and appearance of vortex veins in various eye diseases. The CVVD and MDPTB were significantly increased in the PCV compared with those in the AMD group; the CVVD, MRAV, and PVVA were significantly increased in the PCV compared with those in the healthy group. The vortex vein branches in PCV eyes were significantly dilated in the posterior pole, and the lower proportion of type IV vortex veins may be pathognomonic for PCV.

Summary: An artificial intelligence system called Ai-Doctor was developed to interpret fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) images for the diagnosis and treatment of ischemic retinal diseases (IRDs). The system performed well in various tasks, such as image identification, diabetic retinopathy and branch retinal vein occlusion diagnosis, and non-perfusion area segmentation. It was also able to expand its capabilities to previously unencountered IRDs. A new clinically applicable ischemia index was proposed to assess the degree of ischemia and guide laser therapy.
