Summary: Oxidant-free Au-catalyzed reactions are gaining attention as a new tool for innovative organic transformations. This study successfully demonstrated the synthesis of two Au(i) complexes and proposed a rational design for oxidant-free Au-catalyzed reactions. A novel Au(i)-catalytic procedure for the synthesis of gamma-substituted gamma-butyrolactones was developed based on the fundamental knowledge gained on the redox properties of Au(i)/Au(iii) systems.

Summary: In the presence of copper salt and molecular oxygen, a simple and direct aerobic oxidative esterification reaction of arylacetonitriles with alcohols/phenols is achieved, resulting in a broad range of aryl carboxylic acid esters in good to high yields. Copper salt plays multiple roles in the transformation, facilitating the oxygenation of C-H bond, cleavage of inert C-C bond, and formation of C-O bond in one pot without the need for any additional acids, bases, ligands, etc. This reaction provides a simple, direct, and efficient method for synthesizing functionalized esters, especially aryl benzoates, from readily available starting materials.

Summary: A concise and efficient synthesis method of direct esterificationof aldehydes via Pd-catalyzed C-H bond activation of aldehydegroup has been developed. The strategy avoids the preoxidation stepof aldehyde or use of condensing agents in ester synthesis, and is applicable to various alcohols and difficult-to-esterify phenolics. The methodology has the significant advantages of broad substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, and nonrequirement of additional oxidants.

Summary: This paper reports the reactivity of two types of organopnictogen(I) N,C,N-pincer ligand coordinated compound towards an electron-deficient alkyne, dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD). The reactions show significant examples of element-ligand cooperation. The compounds react via dearomatization of a latent heteropnictole ring, producing rare examples of hetero Diels-Alder (DA) adducts. Furthermore, the study includes a theoretical survey to describe the main thermodynamic parameters and reaction pathways.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.
