Summary: Chitinase 1 (CHIT1) and chitinase 3-like-1 (CHI3L1) play significant roles in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. Their dysregulated expression is associated with clinical outcomes in patients. They mainly act in alveolar macrophages to regulate fibroproliferative responses through various cellular processes. Therefore, CHIT1 and CHI3L1 could be potential therapeutic targets for treating pulmonary fibrosis.

Summary: In this study, immune cell markers in NSCLC specimens were evaluated, with CD163 and CD206 showing prognostic value, especially in patients with squamous cell lung carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Additionally, iNOS and CHID1 were found to be expressed in tumor cells and associated with prognosis, indicating potential as therapeutic targets in NSCLC.

Summary: The study showed that the levels of chitinase-3-like protein 1 and keratin 5 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were significantly higher in patients with malignant lung disease compared to those with benign lung disease. The combined testing of these two markers could enhance the sensitivity and specificity of lung cancer diagnosis, making them promising biomarkers for early detection and potential targeted therapy. Further research is needed to explore their clinical implications.

Summary: The research found that CHI3L1 protein plays an important role in liver fibrosis diseases and is mainly produced by liver macrophages. The study showed that inhibiting CHI3L1 expression can effectively alleviate the inflammatory response and liver fibrosis. This study revealed a new role of CHI3L1 derived from liver macrophages in the progression of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and identified this protein as a potential anti-fibrotic therapeutic target.

Summary: KLF3, a key transcriptional repressor, plays significant roles in various biological functions and is particularly important in pancreatic cancer. Abnormal expression of KLF3 is found in multiple tumors and silencing KLF3 expression inhibits pancreatic cancer progression. It is involved in immune-related pathways and tumor progression-related pathways.

Summary: This study investigated the anxiolytic effect of a compound called G721-0282 on mice subjected to chronic stress. The compound was found to relieve anxiety by inhibiting CHI3L1 and reducing the expression of inflammatory proteins and cytokines in the hippocampus. The results suggest that G721-0282 could be a potential treatment for anxiety disorders associated with chronic stress.

Summary: This study found that genetic variants of CHI3L1 are associated with the clinicopathological development of prostate cancer (PCa) in the Taiwanese population. In elderly patients (age >65 years), certain genotypes of CHI3L1 were significantly linked to reduced risks of high Gleason grade, advanced pathologic T stage, and tumor cell invasion. Higher CHI3L1 expression levels were also associated with longer progression-free survival rates in PCa patients.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between serum YKL-40 and MMP-9 levels and positive intracranial arterial remodelling in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). The results showed that elevated serum YKL-40 and MMP-9 levels are independent risk factors for positive intracranial arterial remodelling and can predict its presence.

Summary: This study assessed the concentration of several biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and investigated their diagnostic and prognostic significance. The results showed that higher CSF levels of CHI3L1 and CXCL13 were associated with a higher risk of relapse, MRI activity, and overall disease activity in MS patients. These findings suggest that CSF CHI3L1 and CXCL13 levels can serve as good prognostic biomarkers in MS patients and aid in treatment decisions. The study also found differences in CSF BAFF and APRIL levels between different phases of MS, indicating the modulation of B-cells pathways vary in different disease stages.
