Summary: This study investigated the effects and mechanisms of 2',4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxy-3',5'-dimethylchalcone (DMC) on exercise tolerance in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). The results showed that DMC combined with regular exercise improved endurance performance, body composition, glucose and insulin tolerance, lipid profile, and inflammation in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, DMC restored normal tissue morphology, reduced fatigue-associated markers, and enhanced whole-body metabolism and protein expression in the muscle and adipose tissues of HFD-fed mice. These findings suggest that DMC has antifatigue effects by regulating glucolipid catabolism, inflammation, and energy homeostasis, and exerts a synergistic exercise-related metabolic effect via the AMPK-SIRT1-PGC-1a signaling pathway, making it a potential natural sports supplement for obesity prevention.

Summary: The overproduction of ROS has been linked to various human diseases. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a food additive commonly used in Asian cuisine, has been associated with ROS generation. This study found that MSG exposure influenced trophoblast invasion and differentiation, two critical functions during placenta formation, through increased ROS production. The findings suggest that long-term exposure to MSG may have adverse health effects, compromising important trophoblast functions.

Summary: This study investigates the role of peripheral lymphocyte count in phenotyping and prognosis prediction in dermatomyositis (DM) patients with anti-MDA5 antibodies. Results show that DM patients with anti-MDA5+ have significantly lower lymphocyte count compared to other types of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM). Patients with severe lymphopenia have skin ulcers and rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD), while those with a normal count have a younger age of onset and more frequent arthritis. Survival analysis reveals higher mortality rates in the severe lymphopenia group. Unsupervised machine learning identifies three clusters with different lymphocyte counts and prognoses.

Summary: In this paper, we study a uniform hypergraph 7-t with cut vertices, which is formed by merging two nontrivial connected sub-hypergraphs (branches) at a certain vertex. The traces of 7-t, also known as the traces of the adjacency tensor A(7-t), play an important role in expressing the determinant and characteristic polynomial of A(H), and are closely related to the Estrada index of 7-t. We provide a formula for the traces of 7-t in terms of the traces of its branches, and obtain some perturbation results on the traces of 7-t when a branch is relocated from one vertex to another. Additionally, we prove that the hyperpath is the unique hypertree with the minimum Estrada index among all hypertrees with a fixed number of edges, while the hyperstar is the unique hypertree with the maximum Estrada index.

Summary: In this study, Mn/Cu co-doped activated carbon (MCAC) particle electrodes were used in the three-dimensional electrical activation of peroxymonosulfate process (E-PMS-MCAC) for the degradation of norfloxacin (NOF). The experiments showed a significant synergy between catalytic and electric activation of PMS, achieving a 90.81% removal of NOF within 60 minutes. Reactive species including SO4•-, •OH, O1(2-), and reactive Mn(III) were involved in the E-PMS-MCAC process, with •OH being the dominant species for NOF degradation. The cathodic reduction reaction facilitated electron transfer and triggered a sustainable redox cycle. Cl- enhanced the NOF removal, while HCO3-, NO3-, and H2PO4- inhibited it. The E-PMS-MCAC process also proved effective in removing other contaminants.

Summary: Graph-based recommendation systems have been gaining popularity recently, using graph neural networks (GNNs) to model user-item interactions and learn user and item embeddings. One challenge is the lack of negative user-item pairs in the user-item graph. To address this, negative sampling is crucial and commonly used, but previous works mainly focus on designing the sampling distribution, neglecting the sampled region. In this work, we propose the Three-Region Principle for guiding negative sampling, suggesting that more items should be negatively sampled from an intermediate region and fewer from adjacent and distant regions. We present the RecNS method based on this principle, which combines positive-assisted sampling and exposure-augmented sampling to generate negative item embeddings in the embedding space. Experimental results show that RecNS outperforms other negative sampling baselines significantly, improving Recall@20 by 10.47% for PinSage, 6.02% for NGCF, and 8.20% for LightGCN on the Alibaba dataset.
