Reductions in vancomycin and meropenem following the implementation of a febrile neutropenia management algorithm in hospitalized adults: An interrupted time series analysis

Trang D. Trinh, Luke Strnad, Lloyd Damon, John H. Dzundza, Larissa R. Graff, Laura M. Griffith, Alexandra Hilts-Horeczko, Rebecca Olin, Samantha Shenoy, Catherine DeVoe, Lusha Wang, Rosa Rodriguez-Monguio, Tina M. Gu, Scott R. Hampton, Brian Allan C. Macapinlac, Katherine Yang, Sarah B. Doernberg

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of a revised febrile neutropenia management algorithm on the use of broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics in adults with hematologic malignancies. The results showed a decrease in the use of vancomycin and meropenem following the implementation of the stricter algorithm, with no adverse outcomes observed.

Expanding the pipeline for multipurpose prevention technologies: compounds with potential activity to prevent or treat HIV and other STIs

Bethany Young Holt, Anke Hemmerling, Susanna Moore, Katherine Yang

Summary: The high incidence of HIV and other STIs, along with antibiotic resistance, highlights the need for new pharmaceutical approaches for prevention. Multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) offer an innovative approach for expanding HIV/STI prevention. The majority of MPT candidates focus on HIV prevention, while fewer contain compounds active against non-HIV STIs.

Summary: This study evaluates the utility of COVID-NET, CCSS, and US Census data to determine demographic representation in the ACTT trial. The study finds that ACTT enrolled a similar or higher proportion of Hispanic/Latino and White participants compared to COVID-NET and a higher proportion compared to US Census and CCSS. The proportion of participants aged ≥65 years was similar or lower than COVID-NET and higher than CCSS and the US Census. The proportion of females enrolled in ACTT was lower than in the reference datasets.
