What Do We Know about Nociplastic Pain?

Summary: Nociplastic pain, distinguished from neuropathic and nociceptive pain, is a recently identified type of pain that is well-documented in literature. Its pathophysiology, including alterations in spinal fluid elements, brain structure, and psychological factors, has not been clearly established. Diagnostic tools originally developed for neuropathic pain, such as the painDETECT and Douleur Neuropathique 4 questionnaires, can also be used for nociplastic pain, but more standardized instruments are needed for assessment. Nociplastic pain is found in various diseases, and current treatments for other types of pain may not be suitable. Efforts are being made to establish effective management strategies, leading to several clinical trials. Physicians should widely discuss and recognize this concept to optimize pain control for patients.

What do we know about the microbiome of I. ricinus?

Summary: This study investigates the potential, tight relationship, and interaction between bacteria in the I. ricinus microbiome. It is found that endosymbiotic bacteria can provide I. ricinus with essential vitamins, and the survival of pathogens such as Wolbachia spp. or A. phagocytophilum may be supported by the tick itself through the metabolic pathways provided by symbiotic Spiroplasma ixodetis. Manipulation of the tick's endosymbiotic microbiome could be a promising approach for controlling I. ricinus and the spread of emerging bacterial pathogens.

Drawing from the identified knowledge, a model linking organizational vision and sustainability-related organizational performance is derived, providing significant theoretical, empirical, and practical implications for corporate sustainability.

Summary: This study evaluates the utility of COVID-NET, CCSS, and US Census data to determine demographic representation in the ACTT trial. The study finds that ACTT enrolled a similar or higher proportion of Hispanic/Latino and White participants compared to COVID-NET and a higher proportion compared to US Census and CCSS. The proportion of participants aged ≥65 years was similar or lower than COVID-NET and higher than CCSS and the US Census. The proportion of females enrolled in ACTT was lower than in the reference datasets.
