Summary: COVID-19 infection primarily causes pulmonary complications, but can also lead to neurological manifestations such as encephalitis and cerebral thrombosis. The difficulty in hospital screening for COVID-19 neurological symptoms lies in the interference of other coexisting symptoms and the deep sedation required for critically ill patients. The case reports discussed in this study highlight specific neurological complications in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: Monocyte Distribution Width (MDW) has emerged as a promising early biomarker for monitoring COVID-19 patients, showing significant correlations with inflammatory markers and prognostic significance. High MDW values are associated with fatal outcomes in COVID-19 patients and are directly related to the activation state of monocytes, indicating its potential clinical impact in managing COVID-19 patients.

This review focuses on the contribution of T cell impairment in the immunopathogenesis of plasma cell dyscrasias, particularly in the progression from MGUS to SMM and MM. The potential of T cell-based immunotherapeutic approaches in these settings is highlighted.

Summary: This study sheds light on the dynamics of MM-specific T cells in patients with MGUS/SMM and introduces a new prognostic tool called MaMs T-cell assay, which may serve as an immunologic marker for effective disease control. The findings suggest that this assay can be routinely applied for risk assessment and prognostic evaluation in patients with monoclonal gammopathies.

A new challenge for urinary free light chains: assessment of the upper reference limit in healthy subjects

Summary: This study aimed to compare the levels of free light chains (FLCs) in serum and urine, and calculate the upper reference limits (URLs) of the FLC to creatinine ratio in urine. The results showed that the metabolism of FLCs is gender-dependent, with slower clearance for lambda FLC compared to kappa FLC. The measured FLC levels in serum and urine were consistent with the manufacturer's recommendations, but there were significant differences according to gender.
