Summary: Edible films made from basil seed gum (BSG) with different gum and plasticizer concentrations were studied. The films exhibited good barrier properties and thermal stability. Increasing the gum and glycerol concentrations improved film crystallinity and barrier properties. Films with low gum and high glycerol ratio had smooth surfaces and suitable transparency for packaging. Higher glycerol and BSG concentrations led to increased water vapor permeability. The complete dissolution of the film in soil suggested its eco-friendly nature. BSG-based films with appropriate gum and plasticizer concentrations can be a low-cost, edible, and biodegradable packaging material for foods, with excellent barrier, thermal, and structural properties.

Summary: Synergized multi-plasticizers were developed for starch-based edible film used in food packaging. Water, glycerol, and sorbitol were used to demonstrate the synergistic effect of combining different plasticizers. The characteristics of tensile properties were studied under different humidity conditions and for different storage times. The results showed that water, glycerol, and sorbitol have their own advantages as plasticizers, but their function can be enhanced when used together.

Summary: Similar to other water-soluble polymer films, pure soluble soybean polysaccharide (SSPS) films are rigid and brittle, limiting their practical applications in food packaging. This study investigated the effects of three commonly used polyol plasticizers on the properties of SSPS films. The addition of plasticizers significantly improved the ductility and water content of the films. PEG400-plasticized SSPS films showed the highest transparency and thermal stability, while sorbitol-plasticized films had better tensile strength and water vapor barrier properties. Glycerol-plasticized films had the highest elongation at break, moisture content, and water solubility.

Summary: This research investigated the properties of quince seed gum films containing emulsions and nanoemulsions with different concentrations of vitamin D. The results showed that incorporation of emulsified oil droplets increased the thickness, opacity, and hydrophobicity of the films, while decreasing water vapor permeability, water solubility, and moisture content. The presence of emulsion and nanoemulsion also led to higher elongation at break and lower tensile strength in the resultant films, with vitamin content being more stable in the nanoemulsion compared to emulsion during storage.

Summary: Liver disease is a major cause of global mortality, and identifying biomarkers for diagnosing its progression is crucial for improving outcomes. Targeted mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for verifying biomarker candidates and clinical applications, particularly for glycoproteins translation. However, the limitation of analyzing only one sample per run has become apparent. In this study, a high-throughput intact N-glycopeptides quantification strategy was developed, allowing the validation of 20 samples per run with an average analysis time of 3 minutes per sample. The strategy was applied in a cohort of 461 serum samples and identified a panel of 10 IgG N-glycopeptides that have strong clinical utility in evaluating the severity of liver disease.
