Summary: The article discusses the differences between the innate and adaptive immune systems, including signaling pathways and cytokine-mediated effects. The functional relevance of the 'third' signal in NK cells remains elusive.

Summary: The study found that receiving the BNT162b2 vaccine significantly increased the number of inflammatory monocytes and various types of NK cells, as well as enhanced the production of interferon-gamma and the content of perforin and granzyme in NK cells. The vaccine also reduced the expression of the inhibitory receptor ILT-2 and increased the expression of the stimulatory molecule 2DS2. These effects were long-lasting and were further enhanced with each vaccine dose. It is worth noting that the reduction of ILT-2 expressing NK cells was more significant in individuals who had recovered from COVID-19.

Summary: This study analyzed the characteristics of CD4 T cell-mediated cytotoxicity in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and healthy individuals. The study found that the level of CD4 T cell-mediated lysis was limited in CML patients. Interestingly, pre-treating CML cells with IFN-? could enhance CD4 T cell-mediated cytotoxicity.

Summary: In this study, it is found that natural killer (NK) cells are the main source of IFN gamma in regenerating muscle. The production of IFN gamma is also limited to a small population of T cells. However, NK cells do not play a major role in muscle regeneration. The absence of IFN gamma per se has no effect on muscle regeneration, but its role is partially unmasked when TNF alpha is also neutralized.

Summary: The study identified Daphnetin as a natural product capable of promoting human NK cell activation via the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway in the presence of IL-12, also enhancing its direct cytotoxicity against tumor cells. The findings suggest a potential application for Daphnetin as a complementary immunomodulator in cancer treatments.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of COVID-19 inactivated vaccine on innate immune cells and found that the distribution of monocytes and NK cells was altered, and robust IFN-gamma-producing NK cell response was elicited by CoronaVac vaccination.

Summary: TLR8 expression was up-regulated in NK cells of patients with CHB, but accompanied by insufficient IFN-gamma production. The response of NK cells to TLR8 agonist stimulation was inhibitory in CHB patients. Targeting TLR8 partially rescued the IFN-gamma insufficiency in NK cells, and combining TLR8 agonist with NA therapy could enhance the antiviral effect of NK cells.

Summary: The study found that melanoma cells lacking HOIP are highly susceptible to NK and CD8(+) T cell-mediated killing, and genetic deletion or pharmacological inhibition of HOIP can enhance this sensitivity. The results suggest that HOIP inhibition could be a potential strategy to improve the killing capacity of TNF and IFN-gamma in immunotherapy.

Summary: NK cells, frontline responders, can efficiently combat various diseases and leishmaniasis. Despite lacking antigen-specific receptors, NK cells can selectively recognize pathogens through the activation of receptors and their effector functions. This review summarizes the evidence supporting NK cells' role in controlling leishmaniasis and discusses Leishmania parasites' strategies in inhibiting NK cell functions.

Summary: Through a functional screen, we identified five antibodies that can activate NK cells and enhance their cytotoxicity and interferon-gamma secretion. These antibodies can be further developed into bispecific antibodies to redirect NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity towards CD20+ B cell lymphoma cells and HER2+ breast cancer cells.

Summary: The study reveals that NK cells can suppress the proliferation and differentiation of Tregs by secreting IFN-gamma in both CHB patients and HBV-carrier mouse model. Additionally, PegIFN-alpha treatment can enhance this inhibition and lead to more vigorous HBV-specific T-cell responses and marked reduction in HBsAg levels.

Summary: NK cells undergo metabolic changes in response to vaccination, with a significant impact of HCMV observed on some metabolic and functional responses in NK cells. Understanding these changes in the context of HCMV is important for rational vaccine design against a range of human viral pathogens.
