Dual antifouling and antibacterial polysulfone(PSf)/polyethersulfone(PES) hybrid membranes were developed by the synergy of capsaicin-mimic N-(5-methyl acrylamide-2,3,4 hydroxy benzyl) acrylamide (AMTHBA) and vinyl triethylene (b-methoxy ethoxy) silane (VTMES). First, AMTHBA as a natural antimicrobial agent was incorporated into a casting solution via microwave-assistance (MWA) in situ polymerization-blending process to construct a hydroxyl-rich environment. Then, VTMES crosslinked to a hydroxyl-rich polymer matrix via hydrolytic condensation, and the influence of VTMES content on the hybrid membrane properties was systematically investigated. When the VTMES added amount was 1.0 wt %, the hybrid membrane achieved an optimal separation performance including a steady-state humic acid (HA) (5 mg/L) permeation flux of 326 Lm(-2)h(-1) and a rejection percentage of 97%. The antibacterial tests revealed that the hybrid membranes exhibited sustained bactericidal activity and effective inhibition of bacterial adhesion. Besides, the dual-functional membranes were clean as new after two-cycles filtration (with a cleaning efficiency of similar to 90%), indicating that the network silicone film on the surface benefits the foulant repellence. Hopefully, the dual-functional membranes constructed in this study can be applicable to the pretreatment stage of water treatment.

The selection of marketplace mode and reselling mode with demand disruptions under cap-and-trade regulation

Xiaoping Xu, Yujing Chen, Ping He, Yugang Yu, Gongbing Bi

Summary: This paper investigates the cooperating mode selection problem of a manufacturer selling products through offline and online channels. The study finds that demand disruptions and cross-channel effects significantly influence the manufacturer's optimal operational decisions and platform mode selection. The presence of demand disruptions complicates the manufacturer's mode selection, and higher cross-channel effects can lead to increased production. Furthermore, demand disruptions have a significant impact on the profits of both the manufacturer and the platform.

The whole blood DNA methylation patterns of extrinsic apoptotic signalling pathway-related genes in autoimmune thyroiditis among areas with different iodine levels

Mengying Qu, Siyuan Wan, Huaiyong Wu, Bingxuan Ren, Yao Chen, Lixiang Liu, Hongmei Shen

Summary: The present study aimed to explore the DNA methylation patterns in AIT patients and different iodine levels areas. The findings showed that DNA methylation levels of the DAPK1 gene were higher in AIT cases, and there were differences in methylation between cases and controls in different iodine levels areas. The results suggest that environmental iodine may affect DNA methylation to some extent.

The protective effects of myricetin against acute liver failure via inhibiting inflammation and regulating oxidative stress via Nrf2 signaling

Xia Wang, Youpeng Sun, Peixuan Li, Zhikai Wu, Yichun Chen, Yiwu Fu, Hanpeng Wu, Yingrong Ye, Jingjing Wang, Zhengtao Yang, Ershun Zhou

Summary: This study demonstrates that myricetin has protective effects against acute liver failure induced by lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine. Myricetin can reduce pathological changes, improve liver function, alleviate oxidative stress and inflammation. These protective effects may be mediated by regulating the Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Summary: This study used the Mendelian randomization (MR) method to investigate the causal relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of gastro-esophageal cancer. The results showed no evidence of a causal association between BMI and gastric or esophageal cancer. Sensitivity analysis and gender-stratified analysis also did not reveal any causal relationship evidence.

A cyclodextrin-based turn-off fluorescent probe for naked-eye detection of copper ions in aqueous solution

Jin Wang, Xiao-Qin Yang, Na Li, Li-Li Wang, Xin-Ying Xu, Ce Zhang

Summary: A novel fluorescent probe L, composed of beta-Cyclodextrin (beta-CD) and thiosemicarbazide moieties, was designed for the detection of copper ions. The fluorescence of probe L was significantly quenched in the presence of Cu2+ in Tris-HCl (pH = 7.4) solution, while other interfering ions had no effect. The probe L formed a 1:1 complex with Cu2+ and the detection limit was calculated to be 1.37 µM. These results indicate that probe L may offer a convenient method for visual detection of Cu2+ in environmental and biological systems.

Summary: This study compared total en bloc spondylectomy with marginal margins to piecemeal spondylectomy with intralesional margins for the surgical treatment of Enneking stage III spinal giant cell tumor (GCT), focusing on local recurrence. The results showed that total en bloc spondylectomy had a lower recurrence rate and should be preferred over piecemeal spondylectomy.

Synthesis of polymer-derived N,O-doped bowl-like hollow carbon microspheres for improved electromagnetic wave absorption using controlled template pyrolysis

Yuye Dou, Ning Liu, Xiangyi Zhang, Weiting Jiang, Xiaohui Jiang, Liangmin Yu

Summary: In this study, a simple green preparation method was designed to synthesize polymer-derived N,O-doped bowl-like hollow carbon microspheres (BHCMs) for enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption performance. BHCMs were fabricated using copolymerized microspheres of allyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile (P(AMA-AN)) synthesized through soap-free emulsion polymerization as a template and polydextrose as the carbon source. The unique structure of BHCMs-2 provides excellent electromagnetic wave attenuation and impedance-matching characteristics. The study proposes a new and green preparation method for carbon materials to improve their absorption properties.

Theoretical Understanding of Potential-Dependent Electrocatalytic CO2RR and Competition with HER upon Cobalt Single Atom Supported by Phthalocyanine Monolayer

Tao Wang, Long Zhou, Shuwei Xia, Liangmin Yu

Summary: This study used grand canonical density functional theory (GC-DFT) and CANDLE continuum solvation model to accurately simulate the performance of Cobalt-doped phthalocyanine monolayer (Co-Pc) catalyst in electrochemical CO2 reduction. The calculation results were in excellent agreement with experimental values, explaining the competition between CO2 activation and hydrogen evolution reaction and predicting the potential determined step and onset potential. The study also revealed the potential-dependent competition between physical and chemical adsorption of CO2 and H formation, as well as the reason for high selectivity of CO2 reduction at a specific potential range.

Temperature response of a fiber end-face integrated lithium niobate crystal probe based on pyroelectric and thermo-optic effects via polarization state modulation

Tianyi Zhou, Wenxiao Fang, Guoguang Lu, Mingxu Yang, Fengli Liu, Xiaowei Yin, Wentao Qiu, Heyuan Guan, Huihui Lu, Huadan Zheng, Wenguo Zhu, Yongchun Zhong, Jianhui Yu, Zhe Chen

Summary: This paper presents a fiber end-face integrated lithium niobate (LN) crystal probe with a reflective design. The probe utilizes the pyroelectric and thermo-optic effects of LN to achieve a steep temperature response in a narrow range, which is ideal for temperature measurement applications. By mapping the ambient temperature to the output light using the polarization state modulation (PSM) method, the sensitivity of the probe reaches 5.37 K-1cm-1, 447 times higher than that of a polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF). The compact size and efficient light transmission make the probe suitable for various applications, including measuring core temperature and remote monitoring in the biological and industrial fields.
