Summary: Unhealthy lifestyles, such as poor diets and lack of exercise, contribute to disease and chronic illnesses. Assessing adverse lifestyle factors in healthcare settings has become increasingly important. This study evaluates the evidence for assessing six other health-related lifestyle factors, including physical activity, sedentary behavior, muscle strengthening exercises, mobility limitations, diet, and sleep quality. Based on the evaluation, it is recommended to use a short questionnaire to assess these factors in patient care settings.

Summary: It is important to analyze the lifestyle factors in patients with chronic pain without stigmatization. Some lifestyle factors, such as alcohol consumption, smoking, cannabis use, or psychostimulant intake, are harmful to patients, while physical activity and a balanced diet are considered beneficial, but require effort on the part of patients.

Summary: In Tanzania, low International Wealth Index, smoking, household second-hand smoke exposure, daily intake of spicy chilies and salted foods were associated with an increased risk of ESCC, while daily consumption of raw greens, fruit, and smoked fish was protective. Permanent residence in the Central, Northern-Lake, or Southern Highlands zones of Tanzania compared with the Eastern zone was associated with an increased risk of ESCC.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2015 and 2017 were analyzed, and lifestyle factors including smoking, physical activity, alcohol intake, and the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) were identified. The results showed that smoking and heavy drinking were associated with an increased risk of suicide-related outcomes, while high-quality diets and non-heavy drinking were associated with a decreased risk. The associations between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes were stronger in people with depression.

Summary: Lifestyle factors, including alcohol consumption and smoking, play a significant role in the development of head and neck cancers. Promoting healthy lifestyle choices is crucial for improving health and preventing diseases. Stress is known to contribute to the adoption of unhealthy habits such as alcohol and smoking. Understanding the impact of stress on lifestyle choices and exploring the underlying mechanisms can facilitate the development of prevention measures.

Summary: The prevalence of lifestyle risk factors for non-communicable diseases is high among Chilean residents, with overweight/obesity and alcohol consumption being the most common. Men, individuals with secondary education, and those with lower household incomes are more likely to have multiple risk factors, while older adults and residents in rural areas have lower odds of having three or more risk factors. Efforts to address these risk factors may need to focus on the co-occurrence of multiple factors and consider population stratification.

Summary: This study found associations between lifestyle factors and the development of Parkinson's disease (PD) in a Korean population. Smoking had an inverse association with PD in men, while alcohol consumption and physical activity were related to reduced PD development in both sexes. Regular health screening showed a consistent relationship between lifestyle factors and PD development, while lifestyle factors in those without regular health screening had a decreased relationship with PD.

Summary: Metabolic diseases are increasing globally due to the interaction of current lifestyles with the biology of these diseases. Disruption of circadian rhythms and lifestyle habits contribute to the development of metabolic diseases. The use of mHealth technologies allows continuous monitoring and supports patients in adopting healthier lifestyles.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the causal association between unhealthy lifestyle factors and the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR), and found that higher body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and smoking were likely to be causal factors in the development of DR, while higher hip circumference (HC) was associated with a lower risk of DR.

Summary: Pathological processes associated with ageing increase the risk of cognitive deficits and dementia. Frailty syndrome, also known as weakness or reserve depletion syndrome, may significantly accelerate these pathological processes in the elderly population. The co-occurrence of cognitive impairment and frailty syndrome significantly increases the risk of dementia and other adverse outcomes, including mortality, in the heart failure population.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence and associations of non-cardiac comorbidities (NCCs) with in-hospital and post-discharge outcomes in acute heart failure (AHF) patients with different ejection fraction (EF) categories. Multiple NCCs are associated with poor outcomes, and the association between individual comorbidities and post-discharge outcomes varies among different EF categories, suggesting the need for specific multidisciplinary management programs for different comorbidities in post-discharge phase.

Summary: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause invasive cervical cancer through a series of precancerous lesions. Screening women with either cytology examinations or a test detecting HPV infection can prevent cervical cancer. HPV tests are substituting cytology examinations in cervical cancer screening, but more knowledge is needed about the screening performance of HPV tests, especially among younger women. Our findings suggest that women with a negative result may extend the screening interval up to 10 years.

Summary: This study developed a digital training and decision support system (EXPERT tool) for exercise prescription in patients with CCS and/or CHF. The tool takes into account different risk factors, comorbidities, and cardiac devices to formulate personalized exercise prescriptions. Three patient cases are presented to demonstrate the application of the EXPERT tool.
