Summary: We developed a new synthetic method to construct supramolecular A(8)B(n) (n=1, 2, 4) miktoarm star copolymers through host-guest complexation. The formation of these copolymers was confirmed by various analytical techniques. The miktoarm copolymers exhibited phase separation in bulk, and the micro-Brownian motion of the A(8)B(4) structure was enhanced due to weak segregation interaction between immiscible arms.

Summary: The host-guest complexation between a bisporphyrin cleft and electron-deficient guest molecules was studied. The X-ray crystal structures showed that the guest molecules were located within the cleft and formed pi-pi stacking interactions. Binding constants and thermodynamic parameters were determined using isothermal titration calorimetry. Two types of enthalpy-entropy compensation effects were observed based on the guest's movement within the cleft. Chiral guest encapsulation induced bisignate circular dichroism.

Summary: Over 6.2 million people worldwide suffer from moderate to severe vision loss due to corneal disease. While transplantation with allogenic donor tissue is sight-restoring for many patients with corneal blindness, this treatment modality is limited by long waiting lists and high rejection rates. Host-guest interactions have emerged as an important crosslinking strategy for cytocompatible, minimally invasive, injectable tissue substitutes.

Summary: We report a self-enhanced supramolecular nanomedicine (SND) based on the host-guest molecular recognition between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and camptothecin (CPT) for tri-modal synergistic chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT). SND possesses capabilities of fluorescence imaging, PDT and PTT. Benefiting from the supramolecular assembly, SND not only improves the solubility of CPT but also enhances blood circulation time and tumor accumulation.

Summary: Phosphorescent host-guest systems, which have intriguing properties and diverse applications, have attracted considerable attention. In this study, a functionalized metallotweezer receptor capable of noncovalent complexation with platinum(II) terpyridine compounds was designed and synthesized. The resulting heterometallic host-guest complexes exhibited enhanced phosphorescent emission and could assemble into nanospheres. When a specific complementary guest was used, the system showed phosphorescent solvatochromic behaviors.

Summary: Enhanced guest-pair interactions in the CB[8] cavity were quantitatively determined using SMFS, showing how dynamic conformational changes can affect the rupture force of CB[8]-mediated heteroternary complexation. SMFS was also utilized for detecting methyl viologen based on competitive host-guest interactions in CB[8] or CB[7.

Summary: Increasing the silicon content in the silicon-graphite composite anode to maximize the energy density of a lithium-ion battery cell is a challenging task due to the contradictory surface characteristics of silicon and graphite. This study presents an amphiphilic host-guest complex binder composed of pyrene-conjugated poly(acrylic acid) and a hyperbranched gamma-cyclodextrin polymer, which effectively maintains the integrity of the electrode and improves the cycling performance and rate capability of Si-Gr electrodes.

Summary: This study examined the dynamics of three guests (benzene, naphthalene, and xylene) included in isostructural cavities. The results showed that benzene is highly mobile with fast in-plane jumps, while naphthalene experiences 180-degree jumps at high temperatures. Xylene can only undergo 120-degree in-plane jumps at temperatures close to decomposition due to the methyl groups acting as effective stoppers.

Summary: Nanoconfinement is a recent strategy to improve solubility and dissolution rate of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with poor biopharmaceutical properties. Combining cocrystals of racemic praziquantel (PZQ) with glutaric acid (PZQ-GLU) and confining them in mesoporous silica material leads to increased solubility and dissolution rate. The confined PZQ-GLU phase shows transient supersaturation behavior in simulated gastric fluid, providing a dissolution advantage over pristine PZQ.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of five diorganotin (IV) complexes with different ligands have been reported. The complexes exhibit two distinct configurations, with six-coordinate C2SnN2Cl2 environments. The molecular arrangements in the solid-state structures are determined by various weak interactions. The anti-proliferative activity of the complexes against breast cancer cells has been evaluated, with one complex showing the best activity and another significantly less active. The mechanism of cell death was found to be apoptosis.
