BackgroundMost studies have showed that maternal depression is associated with pregnancy complications. However, there were limited evidences in Chinese population. We examined the associations of antenatal depression symptoms with pregnancy outcomes, especially for low birth weight.MethodsA total of 1377 singleton pregnant women were recruited from Nanshan Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital of Shenzhen in this prospective cohort study. Depression symptoms were assessed by the Edinburgh postnatal depression scale (EPDS) questionnaire in the second trimester of gestation; cut-points for the indication of antenatal depression were 12 scores in this study. Socio-demographic data, life-style and pregnancy outcomes were collected through Shenzhen Maternity & Child Healthcare database. The risks of adverse outcomes in pregnant women with antenatal depression were determined by multivariate logistic regression and represented as odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI).ResultsOf the 1377 subjects, the prevalence of antenatal depression was 19.1%. The EPDS scores were 13.82.0 and 6.5 +/- 2.9 (P<0.001) in subjects with and without antenatal depression, respectively. After adjustment for maternal age, education, parity, pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), residential area, fetal gender, an EPDS score >= 12 (versus. <12) was associated with an increased risk for low birth weight (odds ratio: 2.05, 95% CI: 1.12-4.64), but not for preterm birth, large for gestational age, small for gestational age or macrosomia. Conclusion p id=Par Pregnant women presenting antenatal depressive symptoms are at elevated risk of low birth weight. Mental health problems of pregnancy should be addressed for the prevention of low birth weight.

Effect of rare earth element Y(III) on short-term denitrification performance of anaerobic ammonia oxidized granular sludge

Kai Wan, Ye Yu, Chunqiao Xiao, Jinggang Hu, Xuemei Liu, Xiangyi Deng, Ruan Chi

Summary: Ammonia-nitrogen wastewater generated during rare-earth mining poses a serious threat to the surrounding environment. Conventional biological methods are ineffective in treating this type of wastewater. Anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) has become the preferred method for treating rare earth mine wastewater. However, the impact of rare earth elements (REEs) on anammox bacteria has not been sufficiently studied, which limits its application.

Ksak: A high-throughput tool for alignment-free phylogenetics

Xuemei Liu, Ziqi Cheng, Guohao Xu, Jiemin Xie, Xudong Liu, Bozhen Ren, Dongmei Ai, Yangxin Chen, Li Charlie Xia

Summary: In this paper, a novel high-throughput tool called Ksak is introduced for alignment-free phylogenetic analysis. Ksak computes pairwise distance matrix using seven widely accepted k-mer based distance measures and constructs the phylogenetic tree with standard algorithms. Benchmarking results show that Ksak is the most accurate tool among five compared tools, outperforming ClustalW2, a high-accuracy multiple sequence aligner, by 19%. Moreover, Ksak is tens to hundreds of times faster than ClustalW2, addressing the computation limit in large-scale multiple sequence alignment. Ksak is freely available.

Enhancing genomic mutation data storage optimization based on the compression of asymmetry of sparsity

Youde Ding, Yuan Liao, Ji He, Jianfeng Ma, Xu Wei, Xuemei Liu, Guiying Zhang, Jing Wang

Summary: This paper proposes a compression algorithm (CA_SAGM) based on the characteristics of sparse genomic mutation data, which compresses the data into sparse row format (CSR) by sorting the data row-first and renumbering them using the reverse Cuthill-Mckee sorting technique. Experimental results show that CA_SAGM performs the best in terms of compression and decompression time, COO method has the best compression performance, and CSC method has the worst performance. As the sparsity increases, all three algorithms show longer compression and decompression times, lower compression and decompression rates, larger compression memory, and lower compression ratios.

Recoil frequency measurement with ppb-level uncertainty by 6Li atom interferometer

Yang Rui, Liang Zhang, Rui Li, Xuemei Liu, Chunyang Duan, Pengyue Liu, Yuelong Wu, Haibin Wu

Summary: We report the first realization of cold atom interferometers using 6Li, the lightest alkali metal, and measure the recoil frequency with great precision. By cooling the atoms using a narrow 2S -> 3P ultraviolet transition, we approach half of the photon-recoil limit. We overcome the challenges of half-integer spin and hyperfine interaction by developing a magnetically insensitive state, a high-efficiency state preparation, and a frequency-insensitive Raman coupling. A Conjugated Ramsey-Borde interferometer with crossed Raman beams is realized, and the measured recoil frequency represents the most precise measurement so far using an atom interferometer.
